Will there be an Extraction 3? Here’s what we know about a sequel:

Chris Hemsworth is “raking” in all the praise for his leading role in the Extraction sequel. And he deserves every bit of it. Extraction 2, now streaming on Netflix, has taken everyone by surprise. Not only is it a responsible sequel, but it also sets the tone for further films if Extraction is to become a functional franchise.

If you have seen and enjoyed Extraction 2, you might be interested in a sequel.

But will there be a third movie? Here’s what we know.

What is Extraction 2 about?

Extraction 2 picks up from the last movie when Tyler Rake was shot and fell into the river. His body washes ashore and is picked up by Nik’s operatives. Although Tyler contentedly retires in a remote location hidden from the rest of the world, he is soon called back into action. Alcott (Elba), a weird, suave man shows up at his cabin and presents him with a request from Mia, Tyler’s ex-wife. Her sister Ketevan is in deep trouble with her husband, Davit.

He is a powerful crime lord in Georgia, who is intent on keeping his family with him in prison, despite his decade-long sentence. Rake’s job is to extract Ketevan and his kids from the prison. But in the process, he is forced into killing Davit. His brother, Zurab, throws the kitchen sink at Rake and his team as he comes after them to avenge his brother’s life. He also seeks to kill Ketavan, whom he holds responsible.

Will there be a sequel to Extraction 2?

At the time of writing, Extraction has not been green-lit for a third instalment. Extraction 2 has just been released on Netflix and given their history with sequels, it is only a matter of time before we get the final decision.

It is not completely up to them, though, as other producers involved in the second film will also have a say. It is quite clear that the Russo brothers and Sam Hargrave have every intention of continuing the saga and even developing a full-fledged franchise around the cinematic universe. Joe Russo and Hargrave did speak about the possibility of a third movie as well but fell short of giving us a confirmation.

Based on the ending and how successful the two movies have been, we predict that Extraction 3 will be a reality. The plans may also be extended to feature other major characters like Nik Khan and the Georgian brothers in stand-alone films.

What could happen in Extraction 3?

Barely anything is known as a third Extraction movie hasn’t been ordered yet. The ending of Extraction 2 did give us a heads-up of what could potentially materialize in the third film. Idris Elba’s character was introduced as Alcott in the film. His “gnarly boss” bailed Rake and Nik from prison and hired them to do another job.

What this job is will only be revealed close to the release of the third film and hence, all we can do is speculate as of now. But Hemsworth and Farahani are set to reprise their roles and embark on another dangerous mission.

Elba was not given that much attention in Extraction 2. But having an actor of his stature and physicality be a spectator from the sidelines would be a waste. It may be tricky to have Alcott on the next mission in a full-on action-man capacity but here’s hoping he is given the opportunity.
