Monster Next Door (Thai BL) – Episode 4 Recap & Review

Getting Closer

Episode 4 of Monster Next Door picks up where we left off, with Got and Diew rushing Mr Shy to the vet. Thankfully, it turns out to be nothing serious. The vet informs Diew and Got that Mr Shy has a cold and will need to stay at the vet’s for the night. Got quickly offers to pick Mr Shy the next day to allow Diew to focus on his exams.

On their way home, it starts to rain and the two seek shelter. Diew thanks Got and they talk about their relationship. This time, Got is pleased when Diew agrees to meet face-to-face.

The following day, Got picks up Mr Shy from the vet and takes him home. He starts cleaning Diew’s apartment and takes a break after feeling sick. It turns out he got sick from the previous night and has a fever. Diew gets home and looks after him. He gives Got some medicine and allows him to sleep on his couch.

When Got wakes up, Diew thanks him for the help. However, he points out that Got didn’t have to clean the house. Apparently, Diew was planning to use the empty bottles on his balcony to grow his plants.

As the days roll by, Got and Diew get closer and spend more time together. Diew takes Got’s advice and starts trying new things. He talks about his experiences with his best friend, who encourages him to keep trying. Got also starts taking an interest in things like Diew likes. He starts visiting the library with him and reading books. Got’s friends find the new changes fascinating and keep teasing him, asking Got to bring Diew along with him.

Finally, Diew decides to try out basketball and tags along with Got to the team practice. Everyone is welcoming and Got makes sure no one teases Diew. Unlike Diew’s ex-boyfriend, Got goes out of his way to make Diew comfortable even with his friends. The new exposure brings more attention to Diew, and he gets an offer to be a model for one of his classmate’s projects. Diew turns her down.

The episode ends with Got getting drunk after hanging out with his friends. He calls Diew to pick him up and take him home. Upon arriving home, the two nearly kiss as they fall on the sofa.

The Episode Review

Got is slowly bringing down Diew’s walls and making him comfortable around him. Diew might not be aware, but he trusts Got more every day. The fact that he allowed Got into his house when he was not there is a big step already. He is slowly healing from his past trauma. Got is such a green flag.

He understands Diew and is taking the relationship slowly because he wants Diew to feel safe. Unfortunately, even though this show had so much potential, the writers only focused on Diew and Got. We barely know anything about the supporting cast.

This linear approach to the story makes the show boring and offers no new twists and turns. If only the writers added more depth to the other characters and focused on showing Diew’s story better, it would have been one of the best BLs this year. Sadly, all we got is this sleep-inducing, watered-down version.
