Monster Next Door (Thai BL) – Episode 2 Recap & Review

The Coincidental Meet-up

Episode 2 of Monster Next Door picks up where we left off, with Got asking Diew to date. Diew is shocked and asks for time to think things over. Through a flashback, we learn he is still healing from the bad experience with his ex, Pee. Pee’s friends mocked him for being introverted and having a pet turtle. Diew is worried that Got and his friends will do the same.

The next day, Game tells Diew about the new friend he made in class. He is happy he met someone with the same interest and Diew is happy for him, too. After thinking it over for a while and talking to Mr Shy, Diew agrees to date Got.

However, he sets three conditions. He asks Got to never lie to him, always tell him if he is uncomfortable and lastly, he asks that they don’t meet face to face. Up to this point, Diew has not seen Got’s face even when they talk on the balcony. Got is happy with these conditions and they agree to date.

The days roll by and Got’s friends notice little changes in him. He is always in a hurry to get back home and do random things he never did before. They try to ask him, but he refuses to spill the beans and calls them nosy.

Every day, he and Diew talk on the balcony and slowly get to know each other. They mostly talk about what they like and their day. Got tells Diew about his passion for drums and Diew tells about his dream to live peacefully.

Elsewhere, Wan and Beer continue to happily date. The friends occasionally drop by Got’s house. One time, Wan accidentally drops a coin that rolls into Diew’s house. He is shocked when Diew opens the door and runs away, thinking he is a ghost. Later, Diew gives the coin to Beer and asks him to give it to Wan.

As for Diew, he continues to enjoy the company of Mr Shy and occasionally calls his mom and Grandma back home. His mom worries that Diew is lonely, as he says he only has one friend.

A few days later, Diew and Got nearly ran into each other at a restaurant. Wan is the first to spot Diew and approaches him to apologise for thinking he is a ghost. He calls Got over but the young man runs away saying he needs to use the toilet.

Later, Got apologises to Diew, but the latter tells him he is okay. They talk about Mr Shy and Diew is pleased when Got doesn’t mock him for talking to his pet turtle. Got invites him to his upcoming band performance.

As a precautionary measure, Got wears a mask during the performance so that Diew won’t see his face. Diew is touched when he learns this and congratulates Got for a wonderful show. He also leaves food and hangover medicine for Got at his door. Got is touched by the thoughtfulness and thanks him.

A few days go by and to thank Diew, Got plans to leave him some snacks at his door. Unfortunately, Diew runs into him as he is leaving.  Diew is shocked and overwhelmed as this was not how he planned to meet Got in person.

The Episode Review

The episode doesn’t pick up the pace until the ending again. While we understand Diew’s desire to take things slow, he might be overdoing it a bit. His ex’s friends might have been a piece of work, but he shouldn’t lock himself up over the disappointment.

On the other hand, Got has been extremely respectful and thoughtful towards Diew. Hopefully, he will be able to convince the latter that love is worth another chance.
