Miss Night and Day – K-drama Episode 15 Recap & Review

Episode 15

Our recap and review of ‘Miss Night and Day’ episode 15 begins with Na Ok-hui hitting Mi-jin from the back. Unfortunately for her, Mi-jin had messaged Da-young about her situation and asked her to call the cops.

Da-young informs Byung-duk, who in turn informs Ji-ung. Ji-ung and Byung-duk arrive at the location Mi-jin had sent to Da-young, only to find her phone and her father with no signs of Ok-hui or Mi-jin. This is when one of the officers reveals that Na Ok-hui has an old house in the area, and they begin to proceed towards the property.

Meanwhile, Mi-jin wakes up bound as Na Ok-hui prepares to kill her. However, since Na Ok-hui seems to be under the influence, it buys Mi-jin time to use the blade she had hidden in her pocket, cut herself free, and flee from the scene with the killer hot on her heels.

The police, along with Ji-ung and Byung-duk, arrive at Na Ok-hui’s house but find nothing there. Ji-ung frantically surveys the grounds of the property and finds the old shed with traces of blood. He then follows them into the wild, searching for Mi-jin and Na Ok-hui.

In the meantime, Na Ok-hui almost kills Mi-jin but falters when she hallucinates her aunt. This gives Mi-jin enough time to lodge the fentanyl-loaded syringe into Na Ok-hui’s leg, ties her leg, and leaves. Ji-ung finds Na Ok-hui tied up and calls for backup.

He chances upon Mi-jin’s mysterious cat, which takes him to an injured Mi-jin walking towards him, but the sun rises at that moment and Mi-jin faints, changing into Lim Sun.

She then finds herself in the hospital. Her father had also been rescued. Elsewhere, Ji-ung and his team find skeletons buried in Na Ok-hui’s backyard, which they identify as Ji-ung’s mother and Mi-jin’s aunt. Later, after sunset, Mi-jin changes back into herself and meets with her family, which is when her mother also finds out about her sister’s remains.

In the interrogation room with Na Ok-hui, we find that Ji-ung’s mother was working at Ms. Kwak’s where Na Ok-hui had either been an employee or had joined after the woman had seen her kill Lim Sun. But fortunately for her, Ji-ung’s mother had thought of the murderer as a man.

So, when she’d been waiting for the detective to arrive, Na Ok-hui had killed her. Before her death, she’d begged to be spared for the sake of her son, revealing that she did in fact love Ji-ung.

Mi-jin as Lim Sun informs Baek Cheol-gyu about Na Ok-hui’s arrest while he’s imprisoned. Later, prosecutor Cheon-hui expresses that Lim Sun and Ko Won’s statements match too perfectly. Meanwhile, Mi-jin has been trying to avoid Ji-ung. After Mi-jin leaves Da-young’s house at night, Da-young finds that Byung-duk is actually a bachelor and invites him for ramen.

Meanwhile, Mi-jin goes back home to find Ji-ung waiting for her. She realizes that Ji-ung knows about her secret and asks to separate because she doesn’t want to bring harm to Ji-ung since he played a huge role in wrapping up her case without much probing.

The next day, we discover that Cheon-hui somehow had figured out that Lim Sun had lied about her identity to work at the prosecutor’s office and briefs the Chief about it, but he decides to let it go since Ji-ung had threatened to hurt the reputation of the office by revealing that they had been conned twice. We also find that he would be leaving for Seoul soon.

Back at Mi-jin’s house, Mi-jin’s mother is in shock to find out about her sister’s death and decides to meet with Ji-ung. Mi-jin as Lim Sun tries to stop her. Her mother regards Lim Sun as her lost sister only for Lim Sun to change into Mi-jin upon sunset in front of their eyes.

The Episode Review

We are disappointed with the course the show has been taking. Firstly, we have no clue about how Baek Cheol-gyu found that the smell of poppies belonged to Na Ok-hui. It’s a guessing game for the viewers with how lazily the show’s writing has been.

On top of it, many climax scenes have been majorly underwhelming to say the least. Take for instance how Na Ok-hui seems to be under the influence while trying to kill Mi-jin, and let’s not forget about her age and her tired breaths while she looks for Mi-jin, a young 28-year-old woman. The show did play the female killer card, but the execution and thought that goes into such a narrative failed to be executed well.

The fantastical aspect of the show makes absolutely no sense, and the rapidity with which the changes in sunsets and sunrises happen to suit the needs of the scene has been laughable. Coupled with bad writing, it’s almost frustrating to watch.

Overall, it’s a disheartening episode as has been the case with the show. With this, we end our recap and review of ‘Miss Night and Day’ episode 14. We will meet you in the next one!
