Mission: Cross Plot Summary
Mission: Cross, the latest Netflix Korean film starring Hwang Jung-min and Yeom Jung-ah, revolves around the life of a married couple, Park Kang-moo and Kang Mi-sun. Kang-moo is a stay-at-home husband, while his wife is a star detective.
For those who know him, Kang-moo is Mi-sun’s “wife,” doing house chores and volunteering as a school bus driver in his free time. Meanwhile, Mi-sun, nicknamed “the crocodile” by her colleagues, catches dangerous criminals, throwing punches and bullets. However, their peaceful life of carefully divided roles is thrust into an action crime thriller when ghosts from Kang-moo’s past arrive.
What is Kang-moo’s true identity?
Although appearing as a stay-at-home husband and Mi-sun’s “wifey,” Kang-moo is actually a former special agent for the Defense Intelligence Command. He specialized in counterterrorism operations and assassinations. He was discharged from duty after participating in an unauthorized mission where one of his colleagues was killed.
After leaving active duty, he met and married Mi-sun, assuming a new civilian identity.
Why did Kang-moo help Hee-ju?
Kang-moo accidentally encounters one of his former teammates, Jang Hee-ju. He soon discovers that Hee-ju and Joong-san, another teammate, have married and are expecting a child together. Hee-ju also reveals that Joong-san has been held hostage and tortured since he organized a new team and stole important documents to stop a procurement fraud worth over 3 trillion won, led by the anonymous General Park.
To free Joong-san, Kang-moo and Hee-ju decide to infiltrate the military facility. Meanwhile, Mi-sun comes across the same case when one of Joong-san’s teammates is injured after a murder attempt. They had been searching for the files on the pendrive that the teammate had transferred to Joong-san.
Who is the real General Park?
After Hee-ju and Mi-sun successfully get Joong-san out of the facility, he is transferred to a location with medical aid. Joong-san informs Kang-moo of the pendrive’s location and asks him to retrieve it. However, after Kang-moo leaves to find the pendrive, Joong-san is killed, and it is revealed that General Park is none other than Mi-sun!
Before his death, Joong-san revealed that Mi-sun was not his wife and had disappeared after Kang-moo was discharged from duty.
Why did General Park approach Kang-moo?
Since the files contained important information necessary for Hee-ju to launder money overseas, she concocted a plan to find the location of the file. She assumed that if Kang-moo saved Joong-san, Joong-san would ask Kang-moo to retrieve the file and reveal its location. This is exactly what happened, and Hee-ju’s men successfully obtained the file. She also orchestrated the car accident that Kang-moo got into while on his way to Joong-san’s safe house, where the file was kept.
What happens to Mi-sun?
While investigating her own case, Mi-sun finds her way to Joong-san’s safe house and enters into a gunfight with Hee-ju’s men. She electrocutes the original file after transferring its contents to Kang-moo’s phone through a mirror phone. She acquired the mirror phone to spy on Kang-moo after her colleagues spotted him with Hee-ju and accused him of cheating on Mi-sun.
When Hee-ju arrives, she blackmails Mi-sun into giving her the files on Kang-moo’s phone since Hee-ju is holding the unconscious Kang-moo hostage. After Hee-ju leaves, Kang-moo somehow escapes and prevents Mi-sun from being tortured by breaking into the building and saving her. Later, after Kang-moo explains his hidden identity, they decide to retrieve the contents of the file before Hee-ju initiates the laundering process and the money is gone forever.
Are Kang-moo and Mi-sun able to retrieve the files at the end?
The couple makes their way to an underground bunker beneath a mountain where Hee-ju has been operating as General Park. They fight their way through the bunker in some spectacularly choreographed action sequences, disrupt Hee-ju’s laundering process, force her to flee, and eventually retrieve the files from her. They hand over the files to the military and begin working together as partners.
