Chain Reaction
Episode 5 of Missing You starts with Kat and Josh finally coming face to face. Kat remains professional and immediately asks about Dana. He’s in the dark surrounding his alleged ties with her (as we know given the scam that’s running), but it appears he has no part of the operation. He doesn’t do social media but his daughter does, and she set it up. Sadie’s mum died a few years ago so Sadie’s dad moved in with them, explaining the ties between the three.
The person on the dating app is not him, but Josh does reveal here that he left Kat because he didn’t want her to find out the truth about Monte. He apologizes and admits he tried to move on but his heart has always belonged to her. She can’t face this any longer and decides to leave.
What happens at the farm?
Dana continues to hide from Titus and his goons, who scour the forest for her. However, she doubles back to the farm and decides to ring Brendan on the phone that’s now left completely unguarded. Unfortunately, he’s in Titus’ crosshairs, as he shows up outside Kat’s apartment and finds “Number Six’s” son there. Titus starts to piece together the connections, and works to get Brendan’s number.
It doesn’t take long, and Titus rings Brendan, goading him into a blue van. He claims that Dana is inside, but she rings Brendan just before he enters and tries to warn him off. The kid is too stupid to listen and just continues to walk forward, eventually seeing him snatched up and thrown inside. However, Kat shows up and notices the van take off… on a street with visible CCTV cameras pointing right at the van.
What do the police learn?
Kat doesn’t check the cameras up high but apparently there is dashcam footage from the street. On top of this, the police start to piece together what we’ve known for 2 episodes now. The pictures that Titus is using come from archived Facebook accounts but when Stagger finds out that Kat has spoken to Josh and Calligan, he speaks to her privately about all of this. Here, we learn that Stagger did pay Monte to say he killed Clint.
Clint working for Calligan was not a good look for the station and for Kat’s career, so he had him killed. Stagger was desperate to get to the bottom of everything and needed to do this, otherwise Calligan would go after her if the case was left open.
They have run the plates for the van, and found out that it belongs to a Callie Sims. However, it’s another cloned reg again. They’ve figured out exactly where the van turned off the motorway, and found a couple of dog shows in the area that could hold the key to figuring this out. Kat is going to investigate the breeders and try to find a connection.
This, inevitably, sees her stumble into Titus’ farm, where Brendan is captured. However, they’re unaware that Dana is still alive after killing one of his lackeys. Realizing the jig is up, Titus decides to burn the whole place down.
Is Titus killed?
As for Charlie, he finds out that the woman at the start of episode 1 who was ratted out for infidelity, has filed a report at the station about being stalked. She also has a name and an address for Titus, which obviously coincides with Redwaithe Farm where Titus is currently occupying. And the same farm that’s now on fire.
Dana is still lurking about and she heads into the barn, freeing the individuals that have all been kept inside. Kat shows at the farm not long after and goes it alone, not waiting for backup. Dana manages to kill another of Titus’ goons in the barn. However, Titus has Brendan at gunpoint and shouts to the high heavens, demanding she come out or Brendan will be killed.
After shooting hm in the leg, both Dana and Kat race to the area. Kat eventually shoots Titus in the neck and ends this tirade. With him dead, Brendan is reunited with Dana.
Who is Parker?
However, there are further pieces to the puzzle here. Calligan rings Kat and reveals that he’s found Parker. He pings over an address and so Kat heads off alone. Parker is actually Clint’s lover. They were together for 14 years. He also knows Calligan too, and it turns out Calligan blackmailed Clint into working for him.
When Clint broke things off with Parker, not wanting to work for Calligan any longer and trying to protect his affair partner, he was a complete mess.
Do Josh and Kat get back together?
Meanwhile, Josh shows up at Kat’s place. He admits he wasn’t in a good place after they broke up and he always thought about her. He also obviously got into a barfight in Scotland as we know, but it doesn’t seem to have shown up on his record in London.
Kat doesn’t want to wait any longer and decides they should be back together again. Josh also promises to tell her anything she wants to know. She agrees. It doesn’t take long for Kat to bring Josh back into her life and it’s just like old times.
However, Charlie rings in the midst of this and brings up that the partial print for the murder weapon has come back… and it’s Josh’s.
What happened the night of Clint’s murder?
Josh was actually there the night Clint died. Aqua saw Clint and Parker together, and Clint raced after Aqua when she tried to leave. Clint phoned Stagger and had him give the address for Aqua, and although Stagger tried to get there before Clint, the latter got there first and was banging on the door desperate for her to open up. This explains the banging from Aqua’s flashbacks, and after opening up the door, Clint proceeded to reprimand her.
In fact, when Kat rung that night, he threatened Aqua and tackled her to the ground. She ended up bleeding until Josh showed and the pair ended up fighting. This, unfortunately, led to a scuffle that saw Clint stabbed. When Stagger arrived not long after, Clint weakly pleaded for there to be “no police”.
These three covered everything up together and stopped Kat from finding out. They convinced Monte to confess so everything could go back to how it was. This also meant that Josh had to leave.
Despite everything, Kat decides to forgive Josh, or at least it appears that way. She brushes her finger over Josh’s and then we cut to black.
The Episode Review
Deary me, where do you start with this? We do learn the truth about Clint’s murder and exactly how that ties into Kat’s past, which is a nice touch, but what is essentially two cases here, have more holes than Swiss cheese. Its hard to know where to start with this one but lets begin with the big online scam operation.
Kat is supposed to be a prolific investigator in the Missing Persons department but despite dozens of people going missing (if we’re counting the incinerated remains and the people still alive in the barn), Kat couldn’t find a single connection in any of these cases?
Furthermore, the online dating app situation is never investigated in that much detail. If there are fake profiles being set up, all presumably using the same IP address (given they’re all routed through the farm), and the same picture being used constantly in circulation, you’re telling me that nobody involved with this dating site have figured out there’s something malicious going on? And Kat doesn’t think to actually investigate the connections by speaking to the coders or those involved with the app?
This brings us along nicely to Josh. So we find out that he actually killed Clint, in a nice touch, but Stacey and Aqua encouraging Kat to use Melody Cupid was just dumb luck that she stumbled upon the connection to Rishi and Dana’s cases. But why didn’t any of Josh’s bank cards show up being used? If he really got into a bar fight in Scotland, surely he paid for some drinks? No trace of any cards attached to Josh/Reggie but Stacey does find a random archived profile on Facebook?
That’s before mentioning Titus himself and his motivations. Does he just want money? What’s the end goal here? If he’s really this prolific dog breeder then why would he want more money? Why expose himself to the family with the cheating if it’s going to paint a target on him? And if his dogs are so well trained, why did that pup bring the wooden stick to Dana?
There are so many holes to this story and that’s before even getting to the characters, plotting and the editing here, which reveals detail we’ve known episodes ago. It’s such a shame because this one did start relatively well but unfortunately, this is one to forget.
