Military Prosecutor Doberman – K-Drama Episode 9 Recap & Review

The Bullet

Episode 9 of Military Prosecutor Doberman begins where episode 8 left off. Yong Moon Gyu comes to know about Won Ki Chun’s leg situation. This and the following scenes are from 9 days before No Hwa Young was in the interrogation room.

He feels that No Hwa Young is unaware about Cha Woo In’s identity, but No Hwa Young is already on the top of her game. She has been keeping tabs on Cha Woo In and that is how she found out about the secret video revealing Won Ki Chun’s reality as well.

Do Bae Man teams up with the sole witness  from the DMZ Mine Explosion incident, Gu Hyeon Suk, and announces a press conference. He visits Won Ki Chun offering him a last chance to confess everything.

Won Ki Chun comes under immense pressure and just as he is about to reveal the name, a nurse comes in and breaks the moment. Won Ki Chun does not say the whole name, just attempts to say ‘No’ which confirms Do Bae Man’s suspicions that No Hwa Young is the mastermind behind everything.

Do Bae Man meets Kim Han Yong and relays the information about Han Yong’s brother’s case. Kim Han Yong gives his consent for surgery and his brother is let into surgery with Mr. Kang waiting outside.

Cha Woo In visits her boss and tells him that if he fails to issue an arrest warrant against Won Ki Chun then the consequences will be dire. She states all grounds for the warrant but he dismisses them. The sole witness from the DMZ Mine Explosion is on his way to the press conference when he is caught by Won Ki Chun. He is on the phone call with Do Bae Man and Bae Man hears everything.

Here at the press conference, the reporters grow restless and begin to leave. Do Bae Man and his aunt handle the situation and lure the reporters to stay back for some more time. Cha Woo In manages to escape the military base and reaches the spot where Won Ki Chun has kept the sole witness. She is dressed in her classic ‘hunting’ attire of red hair, black clothes and black glasses. She instructs the witness to escape and reach the press conference. She hits the goons with blank rounds and fight ensues between them.

Evidence of bullets from Kim Han Yong’s skull are removed and handed over to Mr. Kang who takes it to the press conference. At the conference, Seon Joo Hyuk, Cha Woo In’s boss, dresses in plain clothes and attempts to sabotage the press conference. Gu Hyeon Suk reaches the room and begins his statement. However, he’s cross questioned by the reporters. He cries and is scared but continues his narration.

Do Bae Man takes the conference ahead and plants the exact questions that could sabotage No Hwa Young’s plans. He shows the bullet removed from Kim Han Yong’s brother’s skull as well. The reporters lap up the news instantly. Cha Woo In on the other hand hits Won Ki Chun.

No Hwa Young receives an angry phone call from Minister Lee Jae Shik. Her position is highly threatened. Won Ki Chun visits her office and threatens to reveal all her wrong doings as well. She calls Staff Judge Advocate and informs him to arrest Won Ki Chun. He, in turn, replies that Do Bae Man and Cha Woo In’s penalties have been lifted by Commander Hong. When the military prosecutor personnel arrive to arrest Won Ki Chun, they find him dead. Won Ki Chun took his own life.

No Hwa Young and other members of the Patriotic Society have a meeting. The members severely criticize No Hwa Young for all that has happened. The news of Won Ki Chun’s death reaches this party also. The news spreads across the country like wildfire.

The scene cuts to No Tae Nam at his military posting. A senior of his comes in the dorms and explains to him how to lead a military life. No Tae Nam is met with a rough senior. This senior calls Tae Nam a ‘pretty boy’.

Do Bae Man and Cha Woo In meet up at the trial court room. They share a few words about their next plan. Since their plan with Won Ki Chun failed, Do Bae Man has some consolation prepared. It is a box of things collected from Won Ki Chun’s apartment and that leads them to a new clue.

The scene merges to the opening scene where No Hwa Young is in the interrogation room to give her statement. She is accompanied by Yong Moon Gyu. She is thoroughly questioned by Do Bae Man and Cha Woo In. No Hwa Young smartly answers each questions.

Somehow the blame indirectly lands onto Do Bae Man and Cha Woo In for No Hwa Young. Yong Moon Gyu allege that their excessive investigation led to Won Ki Chun taking his own life.

Yong Moon Gyu settles a verbal blow on Cha Woo In as he hands her the business card for IM Defense as the new CEO. She realizes that he knows everything about Cha Woo In and her past.

The scene cuts to No Hwa Young in her cabin as she recounts her killing Won Ki Chun and staging it as a suicide. Then again the scene cuts to Do Bae Man at Commander Hong’s office as he thanks the commander for lifting the penalty. Do Bae Man pledges his loyalty to Hong and the episode ends.

The Episode Review

The ninth episode of Military Prosecutor Doberman is paced pretty well. The story keeps up its regular course of plot twists and turns, with the web of deceit and crime growing denser. The forthcoming episodes certainly looks set to lean into intense gratification if the story is penned well.
