Metallic Rouge – Season 1 Episode 13 Recap, Review & Ending Explained

Code Eve

Episode 13 of Metallic Rouge starts where we left off in episode 12 with the Puppetmaster revealing his true identity to Rouge, Jill (Silvia), and the others. Silvia attacks Roy but he skillfully dodges her assault. Silvia believes this Roy’s a fake while Naomi believes he’s a Nean. Rouge argues that this is the real Roy and Roy agrees with Rouge.

What happens when Roy confronts Silvia, Rouge, and the others?

Roy confirms that he’s a Nean and argues that Neans were made to imitate humans. He agrees with Silvia’s sentiments and believes all Neans are fake humans. Roy points to his head, arguing that this aspect of him is real. Ash suspects Roy has a memory library installed in this version of himself. Naomi piggybacks off Ash’s comments and believes Roy downloaded his personality into a Nean copy. She argues he pulled this off before Jaron killed him.

Roy laughs and argues that Jaron never killed him. Jaron transforms into the Red Gladiator and confirms that the person who killed the original Roy was this clone Nean. Silvia denies this Roy’s claims so he asks her several questions concerning when and where she gave Jaron the order to monitor Roy. This Roy announces the same “Rio de Janeiro” location as Silvia, spooking her.

How did Roy pull off this copycat stunt and what else does he discuss with Silvia?

Then, Roy shares how he pulled off this murderous ploy involving the original Roy. He does so by renacting the events via a puppet show. Essentially, old Roy created a clone because he sought eternity. He had the clone remove his original body since it was perishing due to age. Roy argues this is what the original Roy wished for.

Then, Cyan arrives. After that, Roy summons nine puppets to his side, symbolizing the Immortal Nine. He continues to explain things to Silvia. Roy says he believed his nine puppets had their own will and lived freely. However, Roy learned he had total control over their hearts and knew everything they saw, heard and thought. Roy says he sent the nine off to war to protect humanity from the Usurpers (the Junoids).

However, the nine learned how cruel and selfish humans were due to their experiences. Thus, this enticed the Immortal Nine to part ways with the humans and vanish. Moreover, he confirms that the puppetmaster (himself) influenced them to turn against the humans and that he had total control over them. Roy explains that the puppetmaster wanted to see if his puppets could become or surpass humans.

How does Silvia respond to Roy’s comments and what else does Roy reveal to her?

Silvia attempts to assault Roy again. Roy performs a scissor hand gesture toward her and Aes, immobilizing them. This also reaches Eden and Jean wonders what’s wrong with him. Silvia doesn’t want to accept that Roy bestowed her with the “Free Neans” goal but he confirms he did.

Then, he chats about Eva and Eden’s connection with each other. Roy confirms that Eva fell in love with Eden, despite Eden being a Nean she created. Roy doesn’t deny that he toyed with the two. He’s happy that Eva and Eden’s bondage led to Jean’s birth.

What happens to Silvia, Cyan, and Rouge after the former assaults Roy?

Silvia stabs Roy through his chest with her staff. Roy collapses to the ground, reiterating that he set everything in motion. Cyan transforms, stabs Silvia through her chest, and crushes her I.D. Rouge questions what’s wrong with Cyan.

After Roy’s voice echoes out of Cyan, Aes believes Roy’s consciousness lies within Cyan too. Silvia asks Rouge to protect the Neans’ future and perishes. After collecting each Immortal Nine’s I.D., Roy plans to swipe Rouge’s I.D. next. Rouge tells Roy that she won’t let him do that. Rouge transforms and combats Roy.

What happens during Rouge’s battle with Roy (Cyan)?

While Rouge is fighting Roy (Cyan), Roy overwhelms Rouge. Ash wonders why Rouge is having a difficult time. Naomi says it’s because Rouge has her I.D. inside her. While pummeling Rouge, Roy marvels at Rouge’s design, stating how she’s closer to being human, unlike the other Immortal Nine members. He’s also delighted that Eva left Jean, Code Eve, and other things for him.

Jean and Eden arrive. The former tells Roy he knows Jean’s upset that he was nothing more than a human. Also, Jean knows this enticed Roy to uncover Code Eve’s location from the data Eva left behind. Jean argues this convinced Roy to create a play, leaving nine clues for him to uncover. Ultimately, this resulted in Jean sending Rouge after the Immortal Nine to collect each’s I.D. as a part of Roy’s grand experiment.

Roy attacks Rouge more. He says for his new “play,” he wants all Neans to be free and hopes to accelerate their evolution. He hopes to birth new Neans that’ll surpass humans and that he’ll have control over this new world. Eden and Aes try lending Rouge a hand but fail.

How does Naomi help Rouge fight Roy (Cyan) and who wins?

Naomi ponders a strategy. She tells Rouge to invert her output phase and focus on Naomi’s I.D. Rouge shows concern for Naomi’s fate. Naomi tells Rouge that she’ll be with her forever. Rouge moves forward with Naomi’s plan and Roy questions what’s happening. Rouge deforms and finds herself in a strange environment.

Suddenly, something strange happens between Rouge and Naomi. Roy’s left baffled by their achievements. Rouge glances at Naomi’s unconscious body nearby and shows concern. Naomi tells her that she’s embedded herself inside Rouge’s body, resulting in Rouge achieving a new form, several powers, etc. Together, the two confront Roy.

While clashing with Rouge, Roy wonders if he can achieve a similar phenomenon with Cyan. He tries but realizes Cyan’s rejecting his desires. Rouge stabs Roy in the chest and he collapses, earning Rouge the victory.

What happens after Roy and Rouge’s fight?

Roy tells Rouge that he doesn’t mind losing Cyan’s body. He argues he still has Jean and says he and Jean are similar. Jean tells Roy that he is himself and will never be like Roy. Roy questions why Jean’s leaving him to rot alone. Jean says it fits Roy’s character. Roy says he doesn’t want to live that way and knows Jean will feel this way soon.

Roy vanishes, giving Cyan control over their shared body. Additionally, Cyan and Rouge revert to their human forms. Rouge comforts Cyan and thanks her for fighting alongside her. She tells Cyan that Cyan is a real sister to her. Cyan shares a few wholesome remarks before dying. Rouge heads to the Code Eve device in the middle and activates it.

How does Metallic Rouge Season 1 end?

Suddenly, Rouge and the others sense something is wrong with the device. Opera appears. She informs Rouge about a trap implemented into the Code Eve device. Opera says activating this device will cause a virus to spread to all Neans. She claims all Neans will fight alongside the Junoids. Opera reveals her true form to Rouge. She says she and the Junoids look forward to seeing her and the others on the battlefield.

Also, Opera claims the Junoids plan to exorcise humanity. Opera departs. Rouge shows slight concern. However, something happens to the device again. We receive a snippet of the Neans reverting to normal. Eden explains Jean caught on to the Junoids’ ploy and made an antivirus to combat this trap. Moreover, we receive a scene involving a random Nean and a human.

The Nean shoves the human aside and everyone’s left baffled by this development. While that’s happening, Eden and the others flee from the area. Rouge believes her world will change for the better. Later, we spot Rouge eating a chocolate bar while having an internal discussion with Naomi. Then, she spots Opera and several droids causing problems.

The season closes with Rouge transforming and confronting Opera and her army.

The Episode Review

Metallic Rouge has reached its end and closes matters off with an interesting confrontation between Rouge and Opera. This chapter offers audiences answers to dormant questions regarding Roy’s survival and control over the Immortal Nine. Also, the chapter gives audiences a fun fight between him and Rouge, which looked decent at best.

Praises aside, many will argue this ending, and the series entirely, felt rushed. While some will praise this work for most of its storytelling, many would’ve preferred if Bones Studio took their time with this anime. Instead, they choose to wrap matters up with long info-dump segments besides having this intel revealed gradually and authentically throughout different chapters.

A 24-episode or more run would’ve given many viewers reasons to connect with its cast, their issues, and the futuristic setting they inhabit. While it’s nice to see the Neans free and Rouge enjoying her tasty chocolate bar in the end, one can’t help but feel mixed about how Bones Studios wrapped matters up here.
