Merry Gentlemen Plot Summary
All they had to say to get our attention with this Christmas movie was Chad Michael Murray and we were sat. This film directed by Peter Sullivan and starring Britt Robertston and Chad Michael Murray follows Ashley as she returns to her hometown after getting fired at her dancing job in New York.
Upon returning home, she realises her parents’ club is on its last leg. To save her parents’ business, Ashley decides to start a Christmas-themed revue and recruits the hot and single handyman, Luke, to put his hammer down and show off his abs!
How Does Ashley’s Christmas-themed Revue come along?
After returning home, Ashley realises that the parents are struggling to keep their business afloat. They are behind on six months ‘ rent, and the place is falling apart even though a local handyman, Luke, is volunteering to help.
The once popular club is no longer the heart of the town’s culture and even the landlord suggests they sell the business to a popular juice bar company. To raise the $30,000 her family owes the landlord, Ashley decides to use her Broadway experience to liven up the club again.
She starts by recruiting the hunk, kind-hearted Luke, her brother-in-law, Rodger, and Troy, the bartender. With only ten days before their first show, Ashley works with the men to get some rhythm and take off their shirts.
The first show goes well and with time, the men grow more confident in their dancing skills. The new show attracts new and old customers and slowly, Ashley starts making some dent in that rent arrear. A few weeks later, she adds two new dancers, and the show keeps on getting better.
What is Luke’s story?
Luke is a talented carpenter and handyman. He used to live in the city but moved into town a few years back with his girlfriend, Amy. However, Amy couldn’t adjust to life away from the city. A few months in, she dumped Luke and moved back to the city. The breakup left Luke devastated, and he didn’t date again.
Fortunately, Ashley revived his heart, and they start casually flirting when they spend time together. Their feelings start to grow, but they don’t exactly define the relationship. Things come to a head when Ashley gets a call from her former boss a few days before Christmas.
Her former boss offers Ashley her former job back with a 25% raise and Ashley decides to take the job. She breaks the news to Luke and the dancers, and they understandably feel abandoned. Luke feels like he is getting re-traumatised again and confesses that he was falling for Ashley, but just like Amy, she is leaving him.
The only reason he participated in the show was to save Ashley and her family. On the other hand, Ashley holds back on confessing her feelings even though her sister encourages her to.
How Does Merry Gentlemen End?
With Ashley leaving, Luke takes over the Christmas Eve concert preparations. However, everyone is in their feels and not able to concentrate during rehearsals.
On her way to the airport, Ashley gets stuck in traffic, giving her enough time to rethink her decision. She changes her mind and heads back to the club. After the guys’ performance, she and Luke have a heart-to-heart confession.
Ashley confesses her feelings and apologises for abandoning Luke when he chose her. He admits that he enjoyed the experience, and he is thankful for it. They finally make their relationship official and seal the deal with a kiss.
The film ends with Ashley inviting the landlord over for the Christmas dinner and paying her all the money they owe her. Later, Ashley confesses to Luke that although she doesn’t know what the future holds, she will be permanently staying in town.
