Meet Me Next Christmas Plot Summary
Meet Me Next Christmas is one of the Netflix Christmas movies dropping this year. The film directed by Rusty Cundieff stars the ever-charismatic Christina Milian and the rising star Devale Ellis. In this typical romance movie, Layla makes a pact with James, a random man she met on Christmas Eve and vibes with.
She and James promise to meet at the Pentatonix Christmas Concert the following year if they happen to be single. As fate would have it, the following year, Layla breaks up with her good-for-nothing boyfriend three days before Christmas. The only problem is, she didn’t get the Pentatonix Christmas Concert tickets in time. Now she has to scour the earth to find a ticket and meet James, the alleged man of her dreams, there.
Does Layla get a ticket?
Following the advice of her best friend, Roxy, Layla hires a concierge company to find her a ticket to the sold-out Pentatonix Christmas concert. Her concierge turns out to be Teddy, another man she met at the airport a year ago. However, they don’t exactly remember each other.
All Layla can remember from her airport experience is James. Teddy is struggling to keep up with his concierge job. He used to be a chef but had to quit to look after his mom. If he fails to secure the ticket for Layla, he will lose his job. With about 35 hours left to the concert, the two embark on different missions to get a ticket.
First, Layla ends up getting conned by a fake seller on the internet. They get a second chance when a rich couple offers to give them a ticket if they secure the Limited Holiday Channel handbag for his wife. Unfortunately, Layla decides to give up the handbag to a husband, looking to buy the bag for his ailing wife.
By the end of the day, things are looking bleak, but Layla and Teddy are not giving up. Fortunately, Teddy’s cousin Jordy comes through with a plan. He suggests that Teddy and Layla compete in the yearly lips-sync battle known as Snow Ball to win two tickets.
Do Layla and Teddy win at the Snow Ball?
Teddy and Layla work on their sass and sparkle all night under the stressful guidance of Jordy. During a short break, Teddy teaches Layla how to make crème brûlée. After spending the whole day together, sharing titbits about themselves like their goals, fears and motivation, the two start getting close. Layla brings out a more confident side of Teddy. Her perspective on life and letting fate take the wheel starts rubbing off on him. Her encouraging words and praises about his cooking skills make him rethink his goals.
At the same time, Pentatonix starts following Layla’s story after Teddy Dms them about her situation. Like the viewers, they are curious whether Teddy is falling for Layla’s charms, too. I mean, he is going above and beyond, sashaying right and left to get her a ticket.
The following day, with only a few hours left to the Pentatonix Christmas concert, Layla and Teddy take the stage with a steamy performance. They end up getting carried away and kissing at the end of the performance. Despite their passionate performance, they end up taking the second place. However, it seems Santa has a surprise for Layla because Pentatonix gives her a ticket after one of their VIPs cancels.
Does Layla meet James?
As she gets ready for the concert, she realises that she likes Teddy. The version of James she had in her mind doesn’t live up to the real things she has experienced with Teddy for the past few hours. On the other hand, Pentatonix hires Teddy to be their Santa and offers him a chance to confess his feelings to Layla. Layla loves grand gestures, and what could be grander than a Christmas Eve love confession at her favourite band concert?
Layla gets a chance to see James, but she quickly explains that she is not there for him. It turns out that James was not there for her either. He came with his girlfriend and barely remembers Layla. After spending most of the concert trying to get backstage to talk to Teddy, Layla is surprised when she hears him confessing on stage. She rushes to the stage and confesses she feels the same. They embrace, kiss and join Pentatonix on stage as they sing their song, Meet Me Next Christmas.
