Masters of the Air Season 1 Episode 3 Preview: Release Date, Time & Where To Watch

Masters of the Air Season 1 Episode 3

Masters of Air marks the first production venture of Apple Studios, the digital arm of Apple Inc. Made at a budget of almost $250 million, the limited series is one of the most expensive productions in streaming history. Expectations are sky-high given the pedigree of the makers and the personnel involved creatively. Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg’s involvement is bolstered by the presence of the creators behind the 2001 HBO series, Band of Brothers

Both shows are closely related to each other in terms of style, storytelling, and narrative essentials. Masters of Air has a humongous cast with star names like Austin Butler, Callum Turner, and Barry Keoghan. The plot follows the 100th Bomb Squad’s (8th US Air Force) valiant sacrifice in testing times during the Second World War.

We are excited to bring you coverage of all the episodes in Season 1 with episodic recaps and preview articles for each new episode, assisting you to keep up with the unfolding drama.

What happened in Episodes 1 & 2?

Masters of the Air is the courageous story of the 100th Bomb Squad in the 8th US Air Force during the Second World War. The unit flew out of the US in the spring of 1943 to the shores of Britain to join the fight against Nazi Germany. Two leaders in the unit, Majors Gale Cleven and John Egan are the centre of the storytelling, along with a select few crewmen. The 100th squad settles at the Thorpe Abbot Royal Air Base from where all their combat missions are coordinated.

The first episode saw the unit come up against an overwhelming opposition from the Germans as the Americans targeted their U-boat pens in the Weser River. Due to heavy cloud coverage and poor visibility, the mission was scrubbed by Commanding Officer Huglin. The entire unit had to return back home without dropping a bomb. After facing heavy German artillery along the foothills of a Polish peak, the unit came second best to the superior German fighter jets.

Three planes were decimated in the process. Egan, who was promoted to Group Air Executive before the mission, expressed his frustrations at not being a part of the mission in the air.

The second episode brought more joy to the unit as their next mission in Trondheim, Norway, turned out to be a success. They were tasked with destroying German submarine pens, which they achieved with aplomb. The narrator of the story, Harry Crossby became the man of the moment with his quick thinking and decision-making to guide the boys back home.
