Master of the House — Episode 5 “Retribution” Recap & Review

Episode 5 Recap

The recap of Episode 5 of Master of the House titled “Retribution” starts with a flashback of Mavin and Phupat from when they were younger. A fight breaks out between the two brothers as they’re playing and Phupat tells Roongroj that Mavin has been cheating.

Roongroj punishes both his sons and asks them to find a better way to resolve their conflicts other than fighting. The episode moves back to the present day as Mavin tells Phupat that he should move out of the family house. Araya asks Mavin to accompany him to the hospital to meet Shutter who is still in critical condition.

On the phone, Padcha tells Kita that Shutter is up for a heart transplant. Kita, who is in New York for her course in fashion, tells her mother that she is worried about Shutter’s health.

Just then, Phupat asks Padcha to use his father’s help to help Shutter. He tells Padcha that he wants to blackmail Araya into giving him the 10% stake in Theva Gems so he could have a total of 50% stake in the company.

Meanwhile, Kaimook tries to turn off the TV in the servant quarters to stop seeing Bee in a cage. Yuphin comes and turns the TV on, telling Kaimook that Bee is suffering because she did something wrong. Yuphin adds that Mavin wants the other maids to see this to keep them in line.

That night, Kaew asks Joke where Tian is and breaks down when Joke does not respond to her. Kaew starts sobbing when she realises that Tian is no more. The next day, Padcha meets Araya and offers to help with Shutter’s heart transplant in exchange for her shares in Theva Gems.

Meanwhile, Bee is sent back to the servant quarters after her torture session and Kaimook tends to her. She calls Joke out for not standing up for Bee and for failing to protect her from Mavin. That night, Mavin calls Kaimook to his room and tries to embarrass her by taking a picture up her skirt.

He tells Kaimook that she as well as the other maids were his property and asks Kaimook to act like it. Mavin asks Yuphin to get all the maids and manservants including Kaimook, Bee, Kaew and Joke to prepare for an event planned by Mavin. On the other hand, Araya signs her 10% stake away to Phupat after Shutter finds a successful donor thanks to Padcha’s help.

Padcha takes the documents to Phupat and asks him to remember his promise to her. The couple makes it back home and Mavin thanks Padcha for her help with Shutter’s surgery. Phupat tells Mavin that he is taking over the company but Mavin reveals that he has already taken most of Araya’s shares.

Mavin mocks Phupat for making such a mistake. Phupat gets upset and asks Padcha to stop the heart transplant. That night, at the bar, Mavin asks Kaew to roleplay killing him for Tian’s death and proceeds to have sex with her. The episode jumps to the day of the yacht party where Mavin tries to entertain a business partner named Carlos.

Mavin gets distracted when Phupat entertains Carlos with his favourite alcohol. Phupat tries to blackmail Mavin by threatening to sabotage his deal with Carlos. That evening, Phupat, Mavin and Carlos are playing poker when Kaimook drops Mavin’s drink at the table.

Carlos notices Kaimook and presents his interest in her. Mavin suggests that they make the game interesting and bids Kaimook. Carlos wins the game against both brothers and takes Kaimook to his hotel room where he sexually assaults her.

The episode ends with Phupat, Mavin and Joke taking the boat back home. The boat suddenly combusts and bursts into flames. Now that we are done with the recap of Episode 5 of Master of the House, let’s head on to the review.

The Episode Review

Things keep getting terrible for the servants and Kaimook episode after episode and I wonder if there is any redemption for them after all. From the way things ended in this one, we can assume that Joke planned the murder of Mavin and Phupat also died in the ordeal.

There is also a chance that Phupat was involved in the murder of Mavin as the flashback from their childhood shows Roongroj telling Phupat to try and find a way to defeat Mavin even when he cheats.

The flashback at the beginning of this episode shows that Roongroj was the root cause of the animosity between Mavin and Phupat and we can see what that has led to. I am very excited to see what goes down in the next episode as we are so close to the finale of Master of the House.
