Episode 3
Episode 3 of Marry You begins with Ha-na meeting Cheol-hui to show him the buzz he has generated from his interactions with the school kids. During their meeting, Oh In-a arrives, using the opportunity to thank Cheol-hui for boosting her company’s sales. The atmosphere becomes tense between In-a and Ha-na, especially when Gi-jun unexpectedly joins the group. Feeling uncomfortable, Ha-na excuses herself, but In-a convinces her to stay and talk. At a café, In-a shares her side of the incident from three years ago, but Ha-na remains uninterested and walks away.
The next day, Gi-jun brings up In-a’s interest in being matched with Cheol-hui, but Ha-na blocks the idea, insisting she wants someone kind and genuine for him. This leads to a brief argument between Gi-jun and Ha-na, ending with Ha-na storming off.
Meanwhile, Cheol-hui visits In-a’s office to return the money she had slyly included in a letter. That evening, Ha-na runs into a drunk Gi-jun at her friend’s restaurant. In his inebriated state, Gi-jun confesses that his family’s financial struggles had led him to ask In-a to fake their relationship. He had hoped this would drive Ha-na away, as he lacked the confidence to proceed with their marriage. Overcome with emotion, Gi-jun collapses, and Cheol-hui takes him home.
The next morning, Gi-jun wakes up at Cheol-hui’s place and hurriedly leaves. Later, while meeting Ha-na, Cheol-hui notices her vehicle has a flat tire and spots a masked man on her dashboard camera footage. However, he chooses to keep this information to himself.
The following day, In-a officially submits her marriage application, and relations between her and Ha-na improve after Gi-jun explains the truth to Ha-na. Meanwhile, the department is troubled by Na Ji-won, a young citizen demanding to be matched with a wealthy man.
Cheol-hui begins working at Ha-na’s friend’s restaurant, causing sales to soar. Shortly after, Cheol-hui agrees to be matched with In-a after Ha-na explains that their earlier misunderstanding has been resolved.
Elsewhere, Ji-won uses her access at the government office to track down a man with a reported revenue of 20 billion won. However, her meeting with him takes a sour turn when he makes outrageous demands. Fortunately, Ha-na, Cheol-hui, and another team member intervene, helping Ji-won realize that wealth does not equate to good character.
Later, Ha-na blocks Gi-jun’s messages, while In-a sends a heart to Cheol-hui’s profile. However, Cheol-hui seems displeased by the gesture. Shortly after, Ha-na spots Cheol-hui leaving in a black car. He meets with a chairman, hinting at a past connection and suggesting Cheol-hui may be hiding a secret.
The Episode Review
The plot feels flat, lacking the tension or conflict needed to move it forward. The initial emotional tension between Ha-na and Gi-jun resolved a bit too quickly and smoothly, making it feel unconvincing and underscoring the shallow development of their characters and relationship.
As the episode ends, the revelation that Cheol-hui may have a hidden past seems intriguing, at least because there’s nothing else for us to be curious about at the moment. Moreover, while the show attempts to convey themes of equality in marriage regardless of financial status, the poor writing and execution overshadow this positive message.
