Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines – Season 1 Episode 8 Recap & Review

If You Are In Trouble, Feel Free to Consult

Episode 8 of Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines begins with Komari bringing Kazuhiko to the literature club. Shikiya is inside their clubroom and she’s wearing a nurse outfit. Komari and Kazuhiko try trapping Shikiya inside but Shikiya grabs and drags Komari inside the clubroom with her. Something happens inside and Komari screams.

Later, Shikiya, Kazuhiko, and Komari discuss the upcoming Tsuwabuki Festival. Shikiya tells Kazuhiko that the literature club’s exhibit application is lacking. She tells them they need to redo it, otherwise, they’ll be rejected. Komari and Kazuhiko understand. Kazuhiko and Shintaro discuss the festival later.

Shintaro tells Kazuhiko he and Koto plan to quit the literature club after the festival ends. They want Komari to be the next club president and Kazuhiko to be the vice president. Koto arrives and shares her concerns for Komari with the boys. She and Shintaro plan to do behind-the-scenes things. Koto argues this will boost Komari’s confidence.

Kazuhiko promises to support Komari. Then, Kazuhiko and Kaju chat in Kazuhiko’s room. Kaju tells Kazuhiko he got a text from Anna telling him to have lunch with her at the fire escape stairs, their usual meeting place. Kaju responds to Anna’s reply, much to Kazuhiko’s dismay. Later, Kazuhiko and Anna have lunch at their meet-up area.

Anna and Kazuhiko discuss their class’s preparations for the festival. Then, Anna tells Kazuhiko what she saw when she visited the nurse’s office. This short tale involves Sosuke and Karen. After that, Kazuhiko asks Anna if she knows anything about the literature club’s festival plans. Anna brings up Komari. Kazuhiko tells Anna Komari’s being working hard.

Anna argues that Komari is working hard for Shintaro’s sake. As for the exhibit, Anna argues they should center the literature club’s exhibit around food. Anna, Kazuhiko, and Komari go for a walk and Anna explains why they’re going forward with her brainstorming help scheme. Anna leaves the group briefly to do some sightseeing.

Komari confronts Kazuhiko about his feelings for Anna. Kazuhiko tells Komari he and Anna aren’t a couple. The three enter a shop and Anna orders dessert. Kazuhiko lets Komari try his dessert. Anna wonders if Kazuhiko would treat her similarly if she didn’t have any money. After the two bicker about that, everyone returns to the literature club’s clubroom.

Kazuhiko tells Anna they want Anna to tackle a consultant-like job. He says he wants to run with Anna’s food and literature exhibit idea. He shares his plans for it, but Anna doesn’t approve. Anna shares what she wants to do for their exhibit. Although they run into a dilemma with Anna’s banquet scheme, Komari tells them that baked sweets and snacks are fine.

Our trio head to their school’s cooking room and bake a fried dough dish. Komari tells Kazuhiko and Anna that Lemon’s nearby. Lemon enters the cooking room and tries one of the desserts. Anna tells Lemon they need a club advisor and suggests they ask one of their teachers to fulfill this role. Lemon and Kazuhiko visit Amanatsu about their situation.

Amanatsu says she’s the ping pong club’s advisor. However, Amanatsu promises to figure something out. Kazuhiko and Kaju visit their area’s roadside market for inspiration purposes. Kazuhiko tells Kaju he wants to make a special brand of peanuts a famed author adored. He knows it’ll be difficult to do so. Kaju offers to make the peanuts for him.

Kazuhiko texts Komari and tells her Kaju is making the snacks for their exhibit. Komari promises to complete the exhibit’s research portion. She, Kazuhiko, Lemon, and Anna discuss their “edible readings” exhibit plans in the literature club clubroom. Then, Konuki arrives. Konuki tells the four that she’ll be their club’s advisor.

Later, Kazuhiko spots Komari at one of the school’s water fountains. Kazuhiko tells Komari that their application for classroom use needs her signature. Komari grabs the application and signs it. Kazuhiko notices Komari is nervous. He confronts her about it. Then, the two spot Koto and the others leaving their classroom.

Kazuhiko shares some advice with Komari. Then, we cut away to the student council office. Kazuhiko enters the office and chats with a girl named Basori. He tells Basori he wants to give Shikiya their application form. The chairwoman arrives and takes the literature club’s application from Kazuhiko’s hands.

The episode ends with the chairwoman telling Kazuhiko that he and others better live up to their school’s reputation once the third years leave.

The Episode Review

This episode was fine. It’s preparing fans for a “passing of the torch” scenario between Koto, Shintaro, Kazuhiko, and Komari. While Shintaro and Koto had a decent story arc with Komari earlier, it’s a shame they’ll be exiting the narrative this soon.

If they do, it’d be great if the story pulls off something similar to what Sound! Euphonium did with its older characters, particularly Asuka, Mizore, and others. This would give Shintaro and Koto’s return impact and depth. It could also lead to some touching scenarios. Additionally, these characters could be used to measure Kazuhiko and his friends’ internal growth later on.

Besides that, the episode offers wonderful comedic segments that’ll get a chuckle out of fans. Some examples include the literature club nurse debacle with Shikiya and Kazuhiko’s encounter with Basori. It’s weird and amusing moments like these that’ll prevent audiences from tuning out. The animation is also worthy of praise.

The characters’ reactions remain top-notch, with some evoking a strong sense of realism. A-1 Pictures Studios brought their A-game with this show. But all in all, Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines episode 8 should bring viewers some joy until the next chapter is released.
