The Documentary
Episode 8 of Maestra: Strings of Truth begins with Bong-ju’s body being found in the Han River. Se-eum comes to her room to see that there is a cut to her hand and the glasses are broken. Assemblyman Kim threatens Detective Chu when he brings up the drug case and covers the death as an accident. However, Chu thinks Se-eum is involved and secretly investigates.
Some of the chairs have quit and Sang-do feels like giving up. Even the board members of UCF are annoyed and Jeong-jae gives up his shares to keep Hanphil. Phil finds out that he won’t be sued if the spouse is legally incompetent or dead. He tells his lawyer to stall the proceedings.
At the funeral, Ru-na sees a sick Se-eum and drives her home. She takes care of her and even cuts Jeong-jae’s call. While she sleeps over, Se-eum heads to the hospital. The doctor explains that her sleepwalking and memory loss could also be the alcohol but Se-eum finally gives in and gets tested. However, the results will come in a month.
Ru-na wakes up alone and gets frightened as she cannot find Se-eum. An informant tells Jeong-jae about Se-eum’s visit to the doctor and he rushes to her hotel. He is annoyed to see Detective Chu staking the place but he doesn’t go to Se-eum when she arrives.
In her room, she is greeted by a worried Ru-na who hugs her and thinks she had lost her again. She reveals that when her parents went bankrupt, it was Se-eum’s music that helped her. Se-eum thanks her for her feelings and sends her home.
Next, the conductor goes about bringing all the members back. She personally visits all of them and even gives a pay raise by taking a cut. Se-eum then meets with KVN’s Han-gil with a new proposal – a documentary on Hanphil that is hosted by Phil. But what is enticing is that no one knows they are divorcing. The news will be broken exclusively by KVN 3 days before the release to increase the ratings.
Phil, who is in the dark, is excited to mess with Se-eum while Yu-ra is annoyed that she has been cut off. Elsewhere, Detective Chu finds a knife near the crime scene. Hanphil starts prepping for a new concert. Tae-ho informs Jeong-jae about the new documentary and Ru-na almost catches him. But she doesn’t suspect anything and asks him out on a lunch date.
Meanwhile, an upset Jeong-jae requests Se-eum not to do the documentary as he can look for other ways to save Hanphil. He asks why she doesn’t just leave. She tears up as she confesses that it could be her last orchestra.
It is Day 1 of the shoot and Phil gives A-jin the cold shoulder while Se-eum gives him the cold shoulder. It’s a rocky start as he mentions Remington’s in her interview but Se-eum handles it smoothly. Ru-na looks surprised that Phil is interviewing Se-eum and he is confused by her interest.
Yu-ra confronts Jeong-jae and claims that Se-eum is using him. He tells her to stop with her mind games. Especially, since they had never married for love and she has no right to be jealous. While prepping for the concert, Se-eum looks stressed as the results will come 5 days after the concert. As for Sang-do, he is worried as the tickets are not selling out.
On the day of the concert, Phil mocks Se-eum about the night she can’t remember. Turns out, he had signed the divorce papers and had shown up to give it to her when she left to see Bong-ju. He looks gleeful that she doesn’t remember and suggests it may be a symptom. He reminds her that she had said that she will step down if she shows symptoms; this very well could be her last concert.
Meanwhile, reports show that the knife contains Bong-ju’s DNA but the blood on it is of a woman’s. The concert begins and only 20% of the seats are filled. Se-eum can’t help but think of Phil’s words. In the middle of the performance, she sees Bong-ju and her mother and she faints at the end of Maestra: Strings of Truth Episode 8.
The Episode Review
Ru-na has always been odd but she feels way too suspicious in Maestra: Strings of Truth Episode 8. Is there more to her character or is she just a fangirl? Won’t it be a nifty turn of events if she gets possessive of Se-eum to the length that someone gets hurt? What if she ends up being the woman who had an altercation with Bong-ju leading to her blood on the knife? That would be an entertaining character development for her.
And this is the first time we see Se-eum opening up to Jeong-jae after that smile in the previous episode. It would be exciting if they got together, the chemistry is really explosive. But despite all that, they really shouldn’t be endgame, he is too red flaggy. By the way, why is everyone trying to gaslight her into thinking she is showing symptoms? She was literally drunk when Bong-ju called her!
