Madam Web Plot Summary
After losing her mother during childbirth, Cassandra “Cassie” Web grows up as a foster kid only to become a paramedic. Cassie knows that her mother was a voyager who was looking for spiders with healing properties in the trenches of the Peruvian Amazonian forests.
During an emergency, Cassie ends up drowning in the ocean and suddenly wakes up with the ability to see snippets of the future. Cassie’s colleague and friend – Ben Parker takes her to his sister-in-law – Mary’s baby shower.
Due to another emergency, Cassie ends up losing her colleague O’Neal and blames herself for not saving his life despite seeing his death in a clairvoyant vision.
While going to attend O’Neal’s funeral, Cassie sees another vision of three teenage girls being attacked by a strange man. Guilty of not being able to save her colleague’s life, Cassie tries her best to protect the girls only to realise that the man trying to kill the girls was connected to her past.
Why is Ezekiel Sims after the three teenage girls?
On the other hand, Ezekiel Sims the Voyager who shot Cassie’s mother and stole the healing spider, keeps envisioning his death at the hands of three women. He seduces a woman working for the National Security Agency of America and steals advanced technology from her.
The technology helps him see that the three women from the future were teenagers in the present time. Ezekiel Sims is determined to kill the teenagers before they are older and powerful enough to kill him.
What does Cassie learn about her mother’s death in Peru?
Cassie leaves the girls – Anya, Mattie and Julia with Ben and Mary. She asks him to keep the girls out of the street until she is back from her trip. In the meantime, Cassie reads her mother – Constance Webb’s notes and learns that her mother was a Voyager who had died in the Amazonian Forests in Peru in search of spiders who had healing properties.
Since Ezekiel Sims, the man trying to kill the three girls could crawl on walls, she was sure he had a connection with Constance. In Peru, Cassie meets one of the Las Arañas men and learns the truth about her mother’s death. She learns that Constance had taken the trip to Amazon after learning that Cassie was suffering from a neuromuscular disease while being inside her mother’s womb.
After learning that her child was going to be born with a disease, Constance decides to take a trip to Peru to use healing properties that came from the Peruvian spiders. Cassie also sees Ezekiel accompanying Constance on the trip. Constance finds the spider but Sims shoots her and flees with the spider. The Las Arañas save Cassie but Constance dies.
Present-day Cassie comes to terms with the fact that her mother wasn’t selfish but had sacrificed her life to save Cassie. The Las Arañas man tells Cassie that she needs to take responsibility for the power that she was given in the form of the ability to see the future.
What happens when Cassie returns to New York?
On the night that Cassie was to return to New York, Mary’s water breaks. Ben takes the three girls along with him to the hospital for Mary’s delivery. However, Ezekiel Sims asks his assistant Amaria to use the technology he had stolen from the NTA Agent to trace and find the three girls.
In the meantime, Cassie arrives at Ben’s house and sees a vision of the girls being attacked by Ezekiel. She finds an empty ambulance parked on the street and drives to the hospital taking the same route as Ben. Just then, Amaria spots Mattie inside Ben’s car in one of the CCTV footage. She alerts Ezekiel Sims about it who in turn shows up to kill the girls.
Cassie shows up in her ambulance and drives it over Ezekiel Sims. She takes the girls with her and asks Ben to drive Mary to the hospital as fast as he can. She then lures Ezekiel Sims into an abandoned building full of explosives. She asks Julia, Anya and Mattie to set the explosive on fire using fireworks to trap Ezekiel inside the building.
What happens when Ezekiel Sims shows up at the abandoned building?
Ezekiel Sims shows up at the building just as Cassie and the girls are lighting the place up on fire. Cassie asks the girls to go to the rooftop and calls for airlift assistance using her status as a paramedic. Despite not having any superpowers, the girls try to help save Cassie from being attacked by Ezekiel Sims.
With fireworks going haywire, Ezekiel is not able to focus on the three girls or Cassie. However, he pushes Julia, Anya and Mattie off the roof and they are left hanging from the building. Cassie uses her power to grab all three girls at the same time and brings them to safety. Ezekiel pushes her causing her to be distracted before she can get the girls off the roof and onto the helicopter.
Cassie recalls seeing a vision of a falling letter ’S’ from the giant Pepsi-Cola sign on the rooftop and assumes that the metal object would fall on Ezekiel. She tries to trick him and gets him to stand under the letter S from the sign. However, during their combat, the larger letter ‘P’ falls off and kills Ezekiel Sims.
How does Madame Web end? Does the film have a post-credit scene?
Cassie relaxes when Ezekiel Sims dies but all of a sudden, the letter ’S’ falls off the sign and Cassie, all thanks to her spider power gets electrocuted. Julia, Anya and Mattie try to help Cassie but realise that she has lost vision in her eyes and developed myasthenia gravis.
At the same time, Mary has given birth to a baby boy named Peter. The girls – Julia, Anya and Mattie – live with Cassie and train under her to eventually become Spider-Women of the future as they fight the evil people. Cassie transforms into Madame Web who guides the three girls despite having no vision.
The film ends with Madame Cassie Web taking her final superhero form as the film ends with no post-credits scene.
