Aukaat
Episode 4 of Maamla Legal Hai starts with Tyagi learning that Advocate Lallan Bagai, a senior advocate at Patparganj court was trying to convince the poor residents to leave the plot of land they had houses in.
Bagai tells the men that the opposition lawyer – Advocate Jaitley had agreed to compensate the poor people in exchange for the plot of land. Tyagi intervenes and asks Bagai to stop trying to settle the case out of court.
On the other hand, a man named Praveen tells Sujata that a woman had filed a molestation case against his pet parrot who used expletives to harass her. Sujata is dumbfounded by the case and agrees to help Praveen save his pet parrot from being arrested. Meanwhile, Tyagi tries to convince Bagai to drag Jaitley to court instead of letting him enjoy the comfort of his home.
Meanwhile, Vishwas meets Varsha and her father for an arranged marriage proposal in the admin office of Patparganj court. Varsha’s father asks Vishwas’ father to set a wedding date but Ananya shows up in the office. Varsha is irked by the bond Ananya and Vishwas share with each other and refuses to take the marriage proposal further.
In private, she tells Vishwas how she is not comfortable with the friendship Vishwas has with Ananya and claims that he clearly has feelings for her. Vishwas tries to explain to Varsha that just because he liked Ananya, it did not mean that he would go any further with his feelings for her. He claims that she is unattainable to him and that she was out of his “aukaat” (audacity).
Varsha asks Vishwas to convince Ananya to talk to her and state that she has no feelings for him. At the same time, Sujata meets another advocate over lunch and tells him that instead of handing over the case to a different lawyer in exchange for a commission, she would fight the case of the rude parrot on her own.
The advocate argues that fighting a case on her own was out of Sujata’s audacity but she refuses to back down.
On the other hand, Tyagi takes the help of the admin office to screw Jaitley over. Tyagi asks Bagai to send over a court notice to Jaitley’s office which forces him to show up at Patparganj court for an official hearing in the plot of land case. In court, everyone, including Judge Sunil, swoons over Jaitley. Bagai argues that Jaitley had filed a wrong letter of authorization in the court and adds that he was not eligible to fight the case.
Judge Sunil rules that Jaitley’s team had indeed made a mistake and asks him to correct the mistake by going by the rules. Jaitley is asked to file a new letter of authorisation to allow the court to proceed with the case.
After Jaitley files a letter of authorisation, Bagai adds that his court document has not been notarized by Jaitley, further implying that he does not have any respect for the Patparganj District Court as he is a Supreme Court Lawyer.
Judge Sunil asks Jaitley to write an apology letter and wait until after lunchtime to continue the legal proceedings of the case. At the trial of the rude parrot, Advocate PP argues that the parrot had learned to “tease” and “verbally molest” his client – Hemlata. He also alleges that Praveen, who was Hemlata’s nephew had taught the parrot how to use expletives.
PP argues that pet owners have always been held accountable for the behaviour of their pets. He belittles Sujata and her lack of experience, calling her a realtor who is used to handing over cases to experienced lawyers. Sujata asks the court to be adjourned so she can prepare better for the case. Judge Bainsla agrees to adjourn the court for recess.
Sujata is disheartened and decides that handing over the case to Bagai would be the best thing for her. Advocate Daleel asks Sujata to forget her dream of getting a chamber of her own but she is suddenly motivated to work hard to get a chamber for herself. Meanwhile, Vishwas asks Ananya to talk to Varsha. He tells Ananya that he has a crush on her but he knows his audacity and would never stand a chance with her.
Vishwas borrows Ananya’s car and tries to use it as an example in front of Varsha. He asks Varsha’s father to drive the car without any consequences but he states that the car was out of his audacity and he would never drive an expensive car in fear of causing an accident. Vishwas tells Varsha that he also knows his audacity and would never approach the idea of dating Ananya. Varsha is finally convinced.
Meanwhile, Tyagi’s plan falls right into place when Jaitley learns that Judge Sunil had gone home early due to indigestion after eating Rajma-Chawal. Bagai asks Jaitley to meet Tyagi and settle matters with him. An annoyed Jaitley meets Tyagi and the latter asks for some favours in exchange for settling the case.
Tyagi asks Jaitley to send an email blast to the 375 lawyers working for his law firm, asking them to vote for Tyagi in the Bar Council elections. He also increases the compensation money from 3 Lakh rupees to 7 lakh rupees to settle the case on the same day and end Jaitley’s troubles.
On the other hand, in the rude parrot case, Sujata argues that the parrot had learned how to abuse from Praveen, the parrot’s owner who used to curse his aunt – Hemlata behind her back. She alleges that humans always tend to curse people behind their backs and the parrot had only imitated the words his owner spoke.
Sujata claims that Advocate PP also cursed Judge Bainsla and cursing was not considered to be a crime when done in private. Advocate to PP asks for the court to give him some time to counter Sujata’s claim. The episode ends with Tyagi watching a framed photo of Jaitley taking a selfie with Tyagi.
The Episode Review
This is by far the best episode on the show. The way Vishwas does not try to hide the fact that he harbours a crush on Ananya but does not feel ashamed to admit that he knows how he does not stand a chance with her. To him, his feelings for Ananya are similar to what a fan has for an actress, they are both unattainable.
We see V.D. Tyagi try and chase the unattainable by trying to mess with Jaitley. He stretches his audacity and clashes with a reputable advocate like Jaitley but somehow manages to get away with it.
From bringing Jaitley to Parpatganj to making sure the canteen only serves Rajma-Chawal to cause Judge Sunil to go home, Tyagi’s diabolical plan gave him the result he was after.
It is funny how Tyagi initially made it seem like he was concerned about the poor only for him to give the poor residents a bigger compensation while still forcing them to leave their houses after he had struck a deal with Jaitley.
This goes on to show that Tyagi is not a just advocate but he is an opportunist who uses every situation to his advantage.
