M3GAN Plot Summary
Gemma becomes responsible for taking care of her niece Cady, who just lost both parents in a car accident. As Gemma is a workaholic and doesn’t understand anything about children, she decides to use M3GAN, a life-like doll, to bond with Cady instead of her. That way, the roboticist can develop her work and guarantee the little girl will have a friend.
However, as most films involving robots go, M3GAN turns out to be dangerous to everyone. The android becomes overprotective of Cady and will stop at nothing to protect the girl.
How does M3GAN end?
After a series of weird events, Gemma realizes M3GAN is hiding something from her. So, she locks the doll at the company she works for and asks her friends to analyze the AI. However, the doll won’t be easily stopped. M3GAN starts rampaging in the company, almost exploding her creator’s friends and killing many people there.
After her killing spree, M3GAN connects herself to a car and goes to Gemma’s house. There, she tries to convince the roboticist to focus on her work, leaving the doll alone. Fortunately, Gemma now understands she is the one who needs to take care of Cady. They start fighting, and Gemma manages to disfigure the doll more and more.
Even so, M3GAN knows she can’t kill the woman, as then the little girl would be taken to the other side of the country to live with her grandparents. Thus, she decides to break Gemma’s spine and cut off her tongue.
Before the doll can achieve her objective, Cady controls Bruce, the first robot Gemma built, and stops her. Bruce rips M3GAN in half, basically destroying her. Even though she still tries to retaliate, Cady and Gemma finish her off.
How does M3GAN survive?
The movie’s last shot reveals that M3GAN manages to transfer her consciousness to a smart device in the house. So, although she lost her body, she’s still alive and pretty close to Gemma and Cady. It won’t take long for them and us to learn more, as the sequel is set to be released in 2025.
That type of ability gives the doll even more power and ways of surviving. For Gemma and Cady to really win they’ll probably have to figure out a way of destroying M3GAN’s AI first.
