Love Your Enemy – K-drama Episode 6 Recap & Review

Episode 6

Episode 6 of Love Your Enemy begins with Seok Ji-won kissing Yoon Ji-won in a feverish daze, just as Jae-ho approaches to give him a heating blanket. Yoon Ji-won quickly prevents Jae-ho from entering the room, saving the situation by keeping the door shut.

The next day, Yoon Ji-won is troubled by the kiss, especially since Seok Ji-won doesn’t remember it. Meanwhile, tensions between Hae-soo and Yu-mi in the special class escalate, and a new student, Jeong Yul, joins Yoon Ji-won’s class.

Back at home, Yoon Ji-won goes through old pictures on her phone, reminiscing about the time she and Seok Ji-won were dating. The next day, Ji-hye proposes to Seok Ji-won that they return to being friends to ease the awkwardness between them. Meanwhile, Yoon Ji-won and Mun-so play basketball before being asked by a fellow teacher to run an errand in Seoul.

Ji-hye ditches Mun-so and Yoon Ji-won to catch a ride with Seok Ji-won, who is headed to Seoul for his mother’s birthday. Ji Gyung-hun also hitches a ride with Jae-ho, who has plans of his own. Unfortunately, Mun-so and Yoon Ji-won miss their bus, but Seok Ji-won finds them waiting at the bus stop. The four end up traveling to Seoul together, and Seok Ji-won promises to pick them up later to return home.

Earlier that day, Hae-soo collapses from overstudying, which helps mend her strained relationship with Yu-mi.

Seok Ji-won meets his father and discovers that Jae-ho has apologized for the fight. This is the result of Seok Ji-won choosing to apologize to Jae-ho for his father’s behavior instead of issuing threats. Despite apologizing, Jae-ho is still unwilling to tolerate the elder Seok’s conduct regarding the golf course dispute.

Meanwhile, Ji-hye schemes to separate Yoon Ji-won and Seok Ji-won. She cuts off Seok Ji-won’s call to Yoon Ji-won and takes her phone for the day, hoping to push Mun-so and Yoon Ji-won together, similar to what she had done in the past. Mun-so and Yoon Ji-won spend the day together, with Mun-so eventually confessing his feelings. Yoon Ji-won politely rejects him, leading Mun-so to leave, feeling awkward.

Seok Ji-won tries repeatedly to contact them but fails. After waiting a long time and leaving his mother’s party early, he heads back alone. Yoon Ji-won, unable to reach him, takes a bus back, and the two meet on the way. They bicker as usual, with Yoon Ji-won questioning Seok Ji-won’s reasons for dating her in the past. Seok Ji-won, recalling his younger self, jokingly responds that it was to mercilessly reject her.

As their argument subsides, they notice the lilacs blooming, and Seok Ji-won remembers the kiss they shared while he was feverish, bringing the episode to a close.

The Episode Review

While not significantly better than previous episodes, episode 6 brings some semblance of plot progression with a new trope.

This is a welcome change amidst the two Ji-wons’ relentless and often grating bickering, which still lacks the charm or endearing quality typical of such dynamics in romantic comedies.

The direction remains subpar, featuring outdated K-drama storytelling techniques that fail to elevate the viewing experience, despite the presence of a veteran cast. The characters’ performances, particularly Jung Yu-mi’s, feel lackluster, marked by exaggerated and over-the-top expressions.

This calls to mind K-dramas from 2015 and earlier, which were often excessively trope-heavy and lacked nuance in execution. Overall, the episode is disappointing, offering little to distinguish itself but managing to scrape by as an average watch.
