Love Sea (Thai) – Season 1 Episode 1 Recap & Review

Love Begins With A Flick of a Pen

Love Sea episode 1 introduces us to the devastatingly handsome  Mahasamut (Mut) as he carries on his work, deep diving in the sea. We also meet  Tongrak on his way to the island. He is on a call, assuring the other party that he will be fine. This remains to be seen after he gets there with his expensive suitcase only to find Mut came to pick him up.

Tongrak is not pleased that he has to ride a motorbike and gets even more exasperated when Mut opts to borrow a three-wheeled motorcycle to take him to the hotel. And thus begins their haters-to-lovers story.

Initially, Tongrak was not for the idea of travelling to the island, but a friend, Connor, booked him a plane ticket and gave him no choice. Tongrak decided he might as well go since he is currently working on a romance novel set on an island.

However, after meeting Mut, he changes his mind and threatens to leave. Unfortunately, he is won over by the aesthetically pleasing sea view. I mean, not even an annoying Mut can ruin such a breathtaking view.

After settling in, Tongrak encounters Mut’s brother, Palm, at the hotel’s restaurant. Palm, a waiter, can’t help but boast about Mut’s popularity in the town.

Tongrak, feigning disinterest, is clearly intrigued by the information. But he tries to maintain a facade of indifference despite the fact that he’s clearly flustered, especially after learning Mut is bisexual. Let’s see how long he can keep up this act.

Meanwhile, back in the city, his secretary, Khaimuk, is overwhelmed with work. Tongrak is a busy man and with him gone, Khaimuk is supposed to hold down the fort. This is not easy, given that she has to deal with excessive demands from Vivi, one of the tenants in Tongrak’s building.

Vivi has a crush on Khaimuk and is using subtle excuses like asking her to drop by and fix her bulbs. Sadly, our girl Khaimuk is unaware that Vivi likes her.

The next day, Mut drops by the hotel to check on Tongrak. On his way, he greets the locals, and we soon realise he is simply a saint. He is considerate and kind. Mut finds Tongrak sleeping and wakes him up. Tongrak uses this opportunity to try and seduce Mut.

However, his plan fails, and the rejection hurts his feelings. He gets back at Mut by being unbelievably picky with his breakfast. Mut decides to play along as he is already paid to look after Tongrak.

On the other hand, Tongrak offers to pay Mut to stop using the Southern accent with him. He ends up overpaying and getting annoyed all over again. Mut insists that he must honour his agreement with Connor and look after Tongrak. Mut also adds that he can be more than just a guide to Tongrak, but the latter pushes him away this time.

Feeling helpless, Tongrak tries to avoid Mut and work on his novel. However,  his writing feels off as he can’t bring himself to perfectly capture the feeling of love that his characters should have.

As the days go by, Mut approaches Tongrak and asks for a truce. Tongrak is barely moved and ignores Mut, acting like he is busy working. Mut comes close and reads part of the novel. Of course, Tongrak is unimpressed, but he is left with no choice but to go sightseeing with Mut. Mut takes him for a boat ride, and for the first time, Tongrak is excited to see what the island has to offer.

As they stop in the middle of the sea, Tongrak gets a call from Khaimuk, but the bad signal makes it hard for them to understand each other. Seeing as Tongrak is on a phone call, Mut jumps into the sea to check a fishing spot. Tongrak panics after finishing his call, and Mut is nowhere to be found.

Mut returns to find Tongrak crying. Tongrak lashes out at him, saying even though he hates him, he doesn’t want him to die. Tongrak thought Mut had fallen into the sea. Mut quickly embraces and comforts him.

After calming down, Mut offers to cook some seafood for Tongrak while actively flirting with him. We’ve got to admit that Mut is a smooth talker, and his smile is so disarming. Tongrak doesn’t stand a chance against Mut’s charms! The episode ends with Mut having a steamy dream about Tongrak.

The Episode Review

Our boys are back and we love to see them. Peat does an excellent job as Tongrak. He looks so good and perfectly brings his character to life. He seems closed off, but he is simply hurt.

Based on how he reacted when he thought Mut had fallen off the boat, we can assume something traumatic happened to him. However, this is only the first episode there is more for us to learn about these characters.

On the other hand, Fort does an exemplary job with his character as well. His Southern accent is on point, and it is fun to see him as a simple island man. His patience with the feisty Tongrak speaks to his kindness, and overall, we like how he plays Mut. We are also excited to see Aya and Chanya. We last saw them in Wedding Plan, and so far so good.
