Episode 6 Recap
In episode 6 of Love on the Spectrum, Maggie says yes to a second date with James! They even share a quick kiss before departing. Connor calls Emily and asks her on a date. Emily says yes. Leading up to the date, he’s much more confident. They meet at a fancy English tea house. The date is, at times, awkward. He yawns while she talks, but explains it’s a nervous tic. They both love Transformers and have Shih Tzus named after Star Wars characters. The matchup seems special, and they agree to meet again.
Steve and Sharona continue their date. Steve confesses to Cian that Sharona comes on a bit too strong for him. He tells her he’s not ready to jump into a relationship. Steve talks with Shorae about his date with Sharona.
Journey prepares for her second-ever date. She shares her fears with her two siblings. She meets Talia at the Lincoln Park Conservatory. It seems to go well, but Journey enjoys it. Over a meal, they talk deeply and afterwards agree to a second date.
Dani explains her demi-pansexuality to her aunt. She speaks with Jennifer to talk about building intimacy in a relationship with Adan. Dani and Adan meet up again, so Dani can ask if he is willing to have sex before marriage. The date starts smoothly with an animation-related conversation. She asks the big question, and the episode ends.
The Episode Review
Love on the Spectrum is not concerned with providing drama in terms of wild twists and turns. So, expecting reality TV-level “tea” would leave anyone disappointed. What we get instead, is an overwhelming feeling of hope and positivity. Things go well for almost everyone this episode and the joy is contagious.
The fact that Connor initially rejected Emily is hard to fathom. One can only hope that their relationship continues to blossom because they seem like they have wonderful potential together. James seems like he’s found someone to gleefully exchange knowledge of history and pop culture. Journey and Dani also seem to be heading in a great direction.
Steve, unfortunately, was at the moment of recalibration after his date. However, he seems to have a wonderful friendship with Shorae, so he’s not alone as he continues to search for deeper companionship. Who knows if he’ll meet that special someone before the end of the season? With only one episode to go, it seems things are gearing up to end on a jubilant note.
The cliffhangers are repetitive, but always exactly as frustrating as they’re meant to be. Everything has stayed consistent. There’s not been a single episode without a funny shot that incorporates a family dog as not only part of the family but also part of the conversation. Whether the relationships work out or not, it’s clear that this process has not only encouraged people on the spectrum to try dating but has also helped them work through some of the social barriers that come with being autistic. That being said, who isn’t actively hoping that all these budding romances don’t work out for the best?
