Lolo and The Kid (2024) Ending Explained – Does the Kid meet Lolo again?

Lolo and The Kid Plot Summary

“Lolo and The Kid” narrates the tale of a conman named Lolo and a young boy he calls the Kid. The duo, calling themselves “forever partners,” have a strict routine: con the rich, sell their stolen wins, enjoy their spoils at karaoke and adventure parks, sleep, and repeat. This continues until something happens that makes Lolo question their ways, changing their lives forever.

How do Lolo and Kid meet?

Lolo had been unlucky in life. He grew up poor and didn’t have money to attend school. He worked as an extra in movies before losing his job when he couldn’t repeat his lines in front of the camera owing to stage fright.

Mostly surviving on the streets, he decided to end his life one day when he found a crying baby hidden beneath the trash. Lolo decided to keep the baby, looking after him and working odd jobs to support the two while also living on the streets. The Kid saved Lolo’s life.

Why is the child named Kid?

Lolo and the child  lived on a day-to-day basis, with survival as Lolo’s priority, especially with a newborn to feed and look after. Naming the child was a luxury he could not afford to think about at the time. It wasn’t until the child became a toddler and a restaurant owner asked for the child’s name that Lolo realized he didn’t have one yet.

Overhearing a conversation about the film “Karate Kid,” he named the child ‘Kid.’ Fittingly enough, they became a real-life dysfunctional master-student duo, with Kid being the Daniel to Lolo’s Miyagi in the art of survival and deceit. Both of them gave each other a second chance at life similar to the characters of the “Karate Kid”.

Why does Lolo take Kid to the beach?

When Lolo and the Kid were about to con a wealthy unmarried woman, she shared her story about being adopted after living on the streets and eventually leading a worthwhile, wealthy life. This struck a chord with Lolo, making him realize the necessity of a better life for the Kid.

However, it wasn’t until their next domestic heist that their lives changed completely. While running away after scamming a queer couple, Kid was hit by a car and rushed to the hospital by Lolo and the couple, who had been chasing the duo after catching them stealing from their house.

One of the men reprimanded Lolo for using Kid in his swindling activities. Although the couple intended to keep Kid, he quietly slipped through the back door of the hospital, and Lolo and the Kid returned to their old motel room.

Soon, Lolo suggested visiting the beach, a wish Kid had repeatedly expressed but was always turned down due to a lack of money. This time was different. Lolo and Kid visited the beach and spent a happy time together.

Lolo even told Kid that he deeply loved him. However, Lolo decided to leave Kid in their next domestic heist with a couple who had lost their child to cancer. The beach visit was his last farewell to Kid before the Kid began a better life without him.

What happens to Kid after Lolo leaves him?

Kid grew up in a wealthy family to loving adoptive parents. He received a great education and eventually began working in a well-paying job. Although content with his life, he couldn’t forget Lolo and often glanced around his house in an attempt to meet him again.

Does the Kid meet Lolo again?

On a certain day, while having a meal, Kid receives a phone call from the hospital. He rushes over to find a greatly aged Lolo in the last stages of his life.

Kid takes Lolo to meet “Fatty,” their old client for buying stolen goods, so Lolo can sell his old camera. They then go to karaoke in their ritualistic manner and sing their favourite song before Lolo passes away.

After Lolo’s body is taken, Kid finds numerous pictures of himself throughout his childhood, highlighting that even though Lolo didn’t meet him often, he never really left him and had always been around him.
