Link Click Season 2 (Crunchyroll, Bilibili), also known as ‘Time Agents,’ is a Chinese mystery donghua (anime) about a group of friends who can enter a photo to experience and gather information from the past. Lu Guang, Xiaoshi and Qiao Ling – long-time friends – have a strict code of rules where they cannot change anything during a dive, no matter what.

They enter to find information, following an exact pre-lived path and only ignite it upon request. Xiaoshi is the ‘diver,’ able to enter the picture and become the person taking the photo. Lu Guang acts as a guide, leading Xiaoshi to find information without making changes. Qiao Ling? She’s the head of sales and marketing. Not involved in or even fully aware of how the guys do their magic, she identifies clients and secures the deal.

The tricky bit? During the 12 hours spent inside a photo, the diver, Xiaoshi, takes on the other person’s memories and feelings, without losing his own. So, things tend to get a little muddled.

While in Season 1, they help customers, in Link Click Season 2 it’s a whole different ball of wax. Season 1 ended with another diver jumping into Qiao Ling and stabbing Lu Guang. In Season 2 Episode 1, Lu Guang is hospitalized and Xiaoshi has taken the fall. Luckily, Lu Guang survives, but his recovery is a slow one. The crux of this season is figuring out who the other diver is and why that person has come after them.

This leads to more backstories and complex relationships, all the while keeping the story traveling at high speed and with a weekly cliffhanger. As much as the well-loved anime Tokyo Ghoul is about perspective, Link Click Season 2 is all over misdirection, keeping us guessing with every release. And just like in Season 1, every action has a consequence, every choice bringing new drama.

Each episode unravels a bit more of the backstory and interconnections. Early on we see that there are already associations with the players of Season 1. But a lot of it is about a desire to understand Xiaoshi’s abilities and limitations. Can he change the past? The music is snappy and on point too. They’ve brought back both Bai Sha Jaws and Fan Ka plus a host of others for some energy-heightening tunes at just the right moment.

Now with two sets of divers with opposing goals, where will it end? Hopefully not back in the hospital or worse. Whatever happens, you can count on Xiaoshi to aim to fix things and Lu Guang and Qiao Ling to focus on protecting the unpredictable Xiaoshi. And after everything that happened in Season 1, they now have Captain Xiao on their side too. That’s gotta help.

Could there be a Link Click Season 3 to come? What we’ve learned so far is that anything is possible.
