Three-day Funeral
Episode 6 of Light Shop begins with the mortician duo paying their respects to Ji-young’s body, explaining how the three-day wake is the final chance for the deceased to say their goodbyes. Ji-young, now able to speak as a soul, reflects on how she used to wait for Hyun-min. At the bus stop where she lingers, Hyun-min encounters her but doesn’t recognize her.
The next day, two men arrive at Ji-young’s house to clear out her belongings, but they sense she hasn’t fully left. Ji-young continues to meet Hyun-min, who collapses after some time. It’s gradually revealed that during her three-day window, Ji-young has been sewing Hyun-min back together. This revelation comes after Kwon Young-ji finds Ji-young’s spirit crying near Hyun-min’s body and suggests that Hyun-min’s will to live might not entirely be his own.
Meanwhile, we shift to Sung-sik, who shares with Won-young the painful memory of a miscarriage he and his wife endured. After leaving the conversation, Sung-sik starts noticing subtle changes around him, including differences in his lighter and physical body.
Back at Hyun-min’s apartment, Ji-young tirelessly works to stitch him back together. This effort is quietly observed by Hyun-joo and her mother from their neighboring apartment.
Elsewhere, Young-ji, who has the ability to see spirits, chats with an elderly grandma mourning over her family’s grief despite her death.
The focus then shifts to Seon-hae, who has been hiding in her rented house, still reeling from fear. She begins recalling her relationship with Hye-won, leading to the heart-wrenching realization that Hye-won is gone. Overcome with grief, Seon-hae breaks down in tears as Hye-won’s spirit holds her one last time.
Finally, Sung-sik’s detective instincts kick in as he pieces together the differences he’s been noticing. He confronts Won-young at the Light Shop, asking about the mysterious place where night remains unending. The episode ends with Won-young removing his glasses, revealing his cat-like eyes.
The Episode Review
Light Shop continues to stray away from traditional horror, leaning into a more heartwarming narrative with moments like Ji-young’s selfless attempt to revive Hyun-min and Seon-hae’s emotional reckoning of Hye-won’s sacrifice. The visuals and direction remain exceptional, with the show balancing its fantastical elements with emotional depth.
However, the series seems to take a narrow approach to its themes, which, while showcasing depth, may lack the full impact it aims to deliver—at least so far. With the finale still ahead, it’s too soon to draw conclusions. Given the show’s skill in weaving its mysteries together, there’s hope that the final episode will tie everything into a more cohesive whole.
