Last Days of the Space Age — Season 1 Episode 3 Recap & Review

Episode 3

Episode 3 of Last Days of the Space Age titled “We’ll Take A Moment” starts with Mia, Jono, Bilya, and Poppy sneaking out of their houses to go to a nightclub. The four show up at the club and cause a scene. Mick is at the same club with Svetlana and the other contestants of the pageant.

Mick notices Mia as she leaves the club after the kids are chased by the guards. Jono drops Mia home and she gets inside through the window. Tilly overhears the conversation between Jono and Mia as she feels left out.

The next morning, Eileen and Judy wake their respective kids for school. Judy asks Mia and Tilly to keep away from the cake she had prepared for the street party that night. Jono wakes up to find out that his dad has decided to keep the food stall closed to prepare dishes for the street party.

At the power supply factory, there is chaos as Fran asks Judy to ensure they send out relevant forms in time to help the power supply continue without interruption. Wayne tells Judy that Mia was at the club the night before. Judy is shocked and gets off work immediately to go see Mia.

On the other hand, Tony who has been staying with Mick after his fight wakes up that morning. The brothers chat about Mick staying in a hotel when Judy shows up there and yells at him for keeping the fact that Mia was at the nightclub a secret from her and Tony. Tony is shocked to hear this but Judy blames him for not being the man of the house and taking care of the family like he brags about.

She then goes to the beach where Mia is surfing and takes her home, giving her an earful for sneaking out. Mia talks back and accuses Judy of having a child (Tilly) out of wedlock. Tony returns home and grounds Mia, scolding her for talking back to Judy. The village women barge into the house and take the cake that Judy had prepared for the night party.

At the party, Eileen notices Bilya being very friendly with Poppy. Yvgeny accompanies Svetlana and two other pageant contestants to the street party. However, it starts raining, ruining the fun. Mick tries to cover the beauty pageants at the party. While the other contestants are nonchalant towards the people of Perth, Svetlana is kind.

Jono’s mother talks to Bob about the call from the refugee camp. He offers to help her get in touch with her son. Eileen and Bob sneak around the party to talk to each other.

At the same time, Tilly learns that Svetlana is an aspiring astronaut who could not go to space because of her gender. She is heartbroken when Svetlana mentions that women were not allowed to go to space due to the uninhabitable physical conditions for them there.

Inspector Rocoa, Poppy’s dad shows up at the party late that night. Yvgeny tries to talk to Rocoa and learns that he is having an affair. He teases the cop about cheating on his wife. Tilly watches Jono and Mia on the roof of one of the houses and pushes off the ladder, preventing them from getting down.

Mia jumps off the roof and calls Tilly out. Judy asks Mia to bring out the cake but Tilly follows after her younger sister, calling her out for taking everything from her. Tilly states that Mia took away her homework, her belongings as well as her best friend – Jono. Mia gets upset and goes to Bob’s caravan. Judy is pissed at Mia for acting out and goes inside.

Meanwhile, Mick is busy capturing Svetlana who plays with the kids while the other two pageant contestants act like snobs. Judy decides she has had it and punches her hand in the middle of the cake, pulling a fistful of cake out and eating it with her hand. She crashes on her bed when there is a power cut.

The party comes to an abrupt close as Tony brings some alcohol for Judy and him to share. Tilly burns down all her spaceship posters. At the beach, the boy that Mia had messed with snatches her surfboard to mess with her. She gets upset and runs towards his car. Jono shows up there and gets in the car with Mia.

Mia, who does not know how to drive, rams the vehicle into a tree nearby. Last Days of the Space Age Episode 3 ends with the Bissett family phone ringing as Tony and Judy are in bed unaware of what has happened.

The Episode Review

From the way things were going at the street party in Last Days of the Space Age Episode 3, the worst possible thing I could imagine was Eileen and Bob’s relationship coming out in the open. Things have gotten a whole lot more complicated now as Juno is in the car with Mia and could possibly end up losing his life.

If that indeed is what will happen in the next episode, I feel terrible for Jono’s parents who are already struggling to find their son who may have to cope with the loss of their other son. It seems like the relationships between the families in this town are a lot more messed up than imaginable.
