Marching Forward
Our recap of ‘Land of Tanabata’ episode 7 begins with a dimensional ball engulfing half of a building in front of people’s eyes. The aftermath has 200 people missing, but Yoriyuki claims to put an end to the nightmares. Nanmaru experiences something like a hallucination where he is transported to the past for a brief moment.
The news about the incident reaches far and wide, with the nation on high alert. Businesses shut down, with Nanmaru also losing his job. Nanmaru experiences another nightmare. Upon not getting answers from the Marukami people, Emi, Tagaya, and Tomoko decide to leave for Marukawa town.
After returning from being let go, Nanmaru goes back home to find Takashi waiting for him. Takashi asks him to tell Sachiko that he might not be able to see her for a while and that he’s sorry. Nanmaru tells Takashi how Sachiko felt the same towards her brother.
Elsewhere, Yoriyuki cancels his deal with the old man. Nanmaru heads to the place where Aki and the detective are taken as hostages after Takashi tells him the address.
Meanwhile, the old man’s aide, who’s always been with Yoriyuki, compels the detective to kill Aki, but she’s saved since the aide, Masumoto, had to visit his employer.
This is when Nanmaru creates a distraction with his dimensional ball and tries to free Aki and the detective. However, a guard finds him and has Nanmaru at gunpoint when the detective creates a distraction and Nanmaru wounds the man with his powers. He’s about to kill him but stops when Aki brings him back to the present.
The three then run as far as they can. Nanmaru feels the “pimple” on his forehead increase a little bit more. He realizes that if Aki hadn’t stopped him, he would’ve killed the man.
Elsewhere, when the old man asks Yoriyuki why he did what he did, he simply shrugs and says that he wanted to test the size, speed, and other aspects of his ability as an experiment. He then leaves. The old man hurries to talk to the prime minister because now he considers Yoriyuki as powerful as a nuclear bomb.
Shortly after he gets into his car, there’s a huge noise and bright light. The man’s entire estate and the surrounding area have disappeared into nothing.
The Episode Review
The show is getting disappointing now. The events are extremely boring and scenes feel like filler where nothing really happens. On top of the extremely slow pace, the experience is frustrating. This series could’ve easily been a 6- or 8-episode series at max without even compromising the quality, just by having the tempo a little faster.
It’s been 7 episodes, and we have no clue about anything that’s going on until now except for the existence of supernatural creatures. The horror is extremely stylistic, and it doesn’t evoke any feelings of horror. Even tense and serious scenes hardly feel dangerous or threatening.
Overall, we cannot wait for this disappointing series to end or at least give us something to keep us engaged. And with this, our ‘Land of Tanabata’ episode 7 recap and review comes to an end. We’ll see you in the next one!
