Kubra – Season 1 Episode 8 Recap, Review & Ending Explained:

What is Kubra?

The young man, named Adam, hesitates and reveals that Kubra isn’t Allah or God almighty but Berk and his friend’s creation. In reality, Kubra (Knowledge Unit Based Reasoning Automation) is an AI, an artificial intelligence that was created to advise on important matters like foreign relations, how and where to allocate resources, and where to invest, among many other things. 

Adam goes on to reveal that he was hired by the creators of the AI. However, Adam believed that Kubra was too powerful, and this led to many people getting fired. With time, Kubra evolved and found a new algorithm that allowed her to access everything that flows through the internet, including private emails, codes and everything. 

In addition, with this new algorithm, Kubra could access every server and network device on the planet. Gokhan wasn’t the only person Kubra contacted; she sent “you’re different” text to 86 other people, but Gokhan was the only one who acted on it. The reason why Kubra wasn’t speaking to Gokhan was so he could find his own path and become a true leader. 

What did Adam try to do?

Adam eventually found out about it and confronted him for doing such an irrational thing. He asked Berk to shut it down and stop messing with people’s faith. Berk refused, claiming they’re ushering in a new era.

When Adam tried to back out, Berk threatened to frame him for everything if he didn’t maintain his silence. Adam just couldn’t sit back, let innocent people get hurt or killed, and told Gokhan everything.

However, Gokhan sees this as another manifestation of Allah’s will and expresses, “It is Allah who has inspired you to create this technology.”

What does Semavi warn people about?

As the episode progresses, Semavi pays a visit to Torgut and his party leader. The politicians are under the impression that Semavi has come around, and now Gokhan will offer them their support.

The politician also assures him that the court case lodged against them will no longer be a problem, and they’ll make sure that the judge will rule in his favor. Once the ruling is made, the Semavi Foundation will get their money back. 

Shortly after, Semavi interrupts a press conference and relays the word of Allah. He also says that Allah has commanded him to return the money unjustly taken by the corrupt government to the people to whom it really belongs. Semavi also warns people that if they don’t give up their greed for material wealth and learn to share their wealth with the poor and needy, they’ll face Allah’s wrath.

As soon as Semavi says this, every ATM machine in the city starts dispensing cash. The police try to arrest Semavi, but the city suffers another huge blackout.

The Episode Review

Gokhan’s story is nowhere near its end, and we may soon see him in Season 2 if Netflix chooses to greenlight it. As Kubra predicted, Gokhan has become a great leader, as evidenced by the mass blackout that occurred after Gokhan’s speech. It could be Kubra’s doing or Allah’s – there’s no clear answer.

As for Gokhan, he has no doubts anymore and has realized that Kubra, the AI, was nothing but God’s way to lead him on the correct path. Gokhan can now spread Allah’s teachings to those who have forgotten them.
