Krapopolis – Season 1 Episode 16 “Eclipse” Recap & Review

Eclipse

“Eclipse” is about an eclipse that bamboozles everyone in Krapopolis. Not just the humans, but the Gods are also confused.

Hermes delivers a message from Olympus to Deliria, summoning her to Zeus’ office. When she denies the summon, four Gods – Hephaestus, Athena, Ares, and Apollo – fly down from Olympus to the city. They all blame Deliria for the “eclipse,” having no clue how it happened. The core of the matter goes to Zeus’ sudden disappearance from the Olympus office. No one has seen him for a long time and even Athena doesn’t know his whereabouts.

Ty helps Deliria out by starting a quarrel among the step-siblings and bringing this point to the surface. The gods have a colourful past with members of the family.

Shlub and Apollo were in a band together before the latter broke it off. Ares takes an instant liking to Stu and hits on her incessantly. Hephaestus is good friends with Hippo after their episode together earlier in the season. Their love for science unites them but it is the nerdiness that keeps them together. It also encourages them to find a solution to this new problem of the eclipse. They decide to build a modern spaceship using the concepts of combustion and oxygen. However, the plan is to use the ship to “punch a hole” in the moon and restore sunlight.

Athena is the one who comes between Ty and Deliria. She serves Ty like a true king, taking his side in every argument and even saving his life from Ares, who attacks in his rage. Deliria firmly believes that Athena is playing him, but Ty doesn’t agree with her.

Ares is chosen as the volunteer to man the spaceship and risk his immortal life. However, Ares rejects the offer to go up when he discovers that the promise Athena made to him – that Stu will marry him if he volunteers – is false. The buck now falls on Ty’s shoulders, even though he is reluctant to do anything. She paralyzes him to give everyone the impression that Ty is volunteering. But her evil plan is successful as Ty tumbles inside the ship and everyone assumes he is doing it willingly.

Deliria, whom Ty had earlier kicked out of the city, never left his side and hid herself as a fly. She accompanies him on the ship, accepting his apology and turning it toward Olympus. Shlub and Apollo mend ways to give one final hit as the ship sails into space.

At his office, Deliria and Ty discover that Zeus is fast asleep in the backroom. He cannot be woken up until he chooses to, having finally achieved his ultimate dream of being a combination of different animals.

The duo use this secret cleverly to persuade the incoming quartet of sibling gods that Zeus has decided to end the eclipse. This also saves Deliria from any wrath of the gods.

The Episode Review

Ty and Deliria are always much better when they work together. This pairing also completes the part of the arc that was started in the first episode.

Everyone knows their role to perfection now, as evident in their voices. Episode 16 stands in stark contrast to how chaotically assembled the characters were early in the season. Now they aren’t as awkward when put together. I like these setups when the characters have bits and parts to play and yet have a clear identity to tie themselves to. It is another decent episode that doesn’t change my opinion of the show.
