Kokdu: Season of Deity – K-drama Episode 4 Recap & Review

The New Clinic

Kokdu: Season of Deity Episode 4 begins when Kokdu sings a familiar song to Doctor Han, finally convincing her that he had met with her mother on the road to the afterlife. He indulges her and lets her know how he met her mother and how her mother was the one source of comfort for him in the afterlife.

He tells her that when her mother passed away, she saw the dead souls attacking him, and instead of doing the same too, and blaming him, her mother hugged him, the first humane thing a dead soul had ever done to him. She may have hugged him while thinking he was her daughter, but he was thankful for the gesture and as a way of thanking her, he told Doctor Han’s mother that he would give her a present.

Doctor Han’s mother was shocked that she was in the afterlife, and after Kokdu explained the circumstances to her, she understood and asked him to take care of her daughter for her, since she died early while her daughter was still young. He made the promise.

Doctor Han reminds him that he had denied knowing her mother, and seems convinced that he is Professor Jin. However, he tells her that her mother sang for him, which makes her laugh at him for being a crybaby. He even tells her that she is just as pretty as her mother was, though since she takes after her father she would live long for being ugly.

On their way home, he is excited because she thinks that their meeting was a planned fate but he tells her that Seol Hui is his only fate. She turns on the radio and he hears someone’s wish, which haunts him for a moment and he insists that she stops the car because he is in so much pain. She slams the brakes and hits someone, though when she steps out in panic, she doesn’t find anyone there, not even Kokdu.

He went to answer the wish and finds the person who called for him being beaten up by thugs. He kills the thugs and then asks the deity to end his suffering, but even he knows that he is yet to make the necessary arrangements.

At the store, Okshin and Gakshin are making small talk while shopping and Gakshin thinks that it will be easier for Doctor Han to confess to Kokdu. However, Okshin thinks that no girl would willingly confess to him because he has a terrible personality. When they get home, they find an overly drunk and frustrated Kokdu having fun with the wine dangling in the air Okshin tries to get a hold of the expensive one, but Kokdu smashes it on the floor, as he tells the two grim reapers that Seol Hui isn’t Doctor Han.

The following morning, Doctor Han calls Kokdu to the hospital, where she gives him her business card, along with telling him that he has to be her nurse at the moment because she can’t find a nurse. He agrees halfheartedly, but when he goes back home, he tells Gakshin to be the nurse that Doctor Han needs. Gakshin rejects the offer but she knows she has no choice.

To prove a point to her master that she is not a good fit, the next day Gakshin shows up at the hospital with an attitude and a near-blank CV. Much to her dismay, Doctor Han hires her as a nurse. She goes back home to complain about the endless errands Doctor Han gave her to Kokdu and wonders what it is that her master sees in the crazy doctor given she isn’t Seol Hui.

Doctor Han goes to the police station and calls Kokdu to accompany her. When she gets there, she realizes that the person she hit was Yideun but she tells the cops that the person she hit was Chong Seong, a man who died two months ago and the cop thinks she is nuts. When she leaves the police station, Yi Deun tells her that he wants to chat with her sometime, but Kokdu shows up and hugs the doctor.

He also tells Yi Deun that Doctor Han is his girlfriend, and takes her away from the police station. She thinks he did that because he was jealous, but he denies it and says that he has seen Yi Deun before, and thinks that the man will bring them bad luck. However, she tells him that because of the accident, she and Yi Deun will still have to see each other and he is not impressed.

At the Pilseung hospital, Pil Soo gives a presentation during the conference that says his medicine can cure arthritis.

Nighttime does come fast and soon it’s 09:09, the time that Kokdu hears the voices. He calls doctor han and she tells him to listen only to him, and that stops the voices from reaching him. Meanwhile, Gakshin plans a picnic for Doctor Han and Kokdu, which fails terribly because someone attacks the doctor the following day during the attempted picnic and throws her into the water.

She summons Kokdu who shows up and saves her. In their moment, he wakes her up and when she opens her eyes, she calls him Oh Hyun before they kiss.

The Episode Review

Kokdu is doing his best to ascertain his identity and remind Doctor Han that he is not Jin-woo. Although they bicker, it looks like they care for each other. Kokdu is already feeling jealous and protective of Doctor Han.

Doctor Han may be the one to solve the mystery behind the death of  Jin Woo’s mom and have Pil Woo arrested. She needs to take the threat against her life seriously.
