Killer Soup – Season 1 Episode 2 Recap & Review

Episode 2

Episode 2 of Killer Soup starts with police and public swarming a crime scene. Detective Kiran Nadar is found dead in his car. Nassar, who plays Inspector Hassan, gets an ice cream from a vending machine and heads to the crime scene. His subordinate, Thupalli, is a diligent police officer who had noted the details already. He briefs Hassan about the victim and the events that led to his death.

Hassan seems quite laidback in his approach and leaves work as soon as his time is up, citing his wife does not like it when he stays out late.

Thupalli calls the phone which last contacted Nadar and the number turns out to be Prabhakar’s. As we saw in the first episode, Umesh and Swathi have killed Prabhakar in a scuffle. Swathi answers Prabhakar’s call. Thupalli asks her to inform Prabhakar to visit the police station in the morning for some questioning. Umesh is panicking and thinks to surrender but Swathi has other plans.

Robert Frost’s poem is being narrated in Thupalli’s voiceover while Umesh and Swathi prepare to dispose Prabhakar’s body. Thupalli is seen going about his morning exercise. As dawn breaks, Swathi and Umesh head to the forest to bury Prabhakar’s body. Thupalli readies to start his new day at work.

Umesh digs a grave and the duo dump Prabhakar into the pit. Umesh slips inside and Swathi feels a weird vibe. Hassan and Thupalli visit Nadar’s house where his mother says that his father, Mr Kamaswami Nadar, comes in her dreams and tells her things.

Thupalli proceeds to do some routine questioning about Nadar but Hassan interrupts him and continues to talk to Nadar’s mother.

Thupalli searches around the house and finds a computer on. He sneaks a peak and finds CCTV footage of Prabhakar meeting Nadar and asking to investigate the matter about the ransom notes.

Umesh and Swathi return after dumping Prabhakar’s body, when Swathi hallucinates. Inspector Hassan calls on Prabhakar’s phone to confirm his visit at the police station. She tells him Prabhakar will visit the next day as he is sick.

At the police station, Thupalli and Hassan question the truck driver. The driver says it was someone else and gives a description. Hassan slaps the guy for his informal way of addressing the policemen. He accepts to hitting Nadar’s car and also mentions a woman wearing a burqha.

Swathi buys a few strong acidic floor cleaners. When Umesh asks her to run away, she is firm on not doing so. She makes a plan to change Umesh’s appearance and make him look like Prabhakar. She was a nurse before so she gives him some morphine and attempts to scar his face with the acid.

Thupalli finds out about her cooking class and finds her burner phone number. She answers it but cuts the call and destroys the phone. Meanwhile, Umesh attempts to use the acid by himself and fails. He spills it over his face, causing a severe burn, loss of an eye and an ear.

Swathi rushes him to the hospital. She makes up a story that a stranger attacked her and Prabhakar (aka Umesh) while they were on their walk. She figures out that Umesh was blackmailing Prabhakar for the money and hence Prabhakar had hired a private detective. Inspector Hassan and Thupalli get on the acid attack case and Thupalli parallelly investigates Umesh.

Swathi heads to Umesh’s house to destroy all evidence connecting them. Just then Thupalli arrives there and sees Swathi leave in a car. He follows after her to the forest. It is around 3:30AM in the morning and quite dark. But Thupalli finds Swathi digging Prabhakar’s grave. She runs away and he follows after, soon reaching a cliff. He finally finds cell phone reception but his leg slips and he falls off the edge.

Swathi burns Prabhakar’s body along with Umesh’s belongings. She goes back to the hospital and finds Aravind Anna there. Thupalli falls into a river and drowns without his message reaching Hassan.

The Episode Review

Well, things escalated quickly there! Swathi definitely is a survivor, and quite ambitious. Prabhakar and Umesh are just pawns to her game. Umesh is a gullible fellow who wants nothing more than to be with Swathi. Thupalli’s efforts need an applause! It will be quite interesting to see as the events unfold in the next episode!
