Kill (2024) Movie Review — A bloody, gory but entertaining massacre

A bloody, gory but entertaining massacre

There have been many action films produced by the Indian film industry. However, India has never seen gore to the level of action thriller Kill. The film is produced by Dharma Productions and was initially released at the 2023 TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) where it was the second-runner-up for the People’s Choice Award: Midnight Madness.

Kill has finally been released in theatres and is proving to be one of the best action films to ever be produced by the country. The film is short with a runtime of 105 minutes and it narrates the story of an NSG Black Cat Commando named Amrit Rothod, who ends up on a train ride from Ranchi to Delhi. On the train with Amrit is a fellow Black Cat commando, Viresh, as well as his girlfriend, Tuilka, and her family.

The train ride starts normally but soon gets violent when a family of bandits start attacking the passengers on the train and looting them. The bandits, under the leadership of Fani, clash with Tulika’s influential family and try to hold them hostage to make a huge fortune. Amrit and Viresh use their army training to tackle a group of knife-bearing bandits with their bare hands.

The film is just as blood-curdling and gory as the internet is describing it to be. Kill starts as a soft romance and immediately turns into a bloody massacre as a bandit group clashes with two highly trained army personnel. Amrit (played by Lakshya) and Viresh (played by Abhishek Chauhan) are great and menacing in their combat scenes.

The film does not try to over-dramatize the deaths of important characters either and takes you right inside the action and the thrill, just like the genre demands. Kill is not for the faint-hearted and we see very gory and intense scenes with the characters not being afraid to kill one another without a worry about the consequences.

While Lakshya does a pretty great job as the protagonist, we see Raghav Juyal (playing Fani) take the cake with his menacing but hilarious dialogue delivery. Whatever is known of Juyal’s personality on the internet over his years in the Entertainment industry, one can say that the character of Fani was possibly written with Raghav in mind.

Despite being a villain, you end up sympathising with Fani because he did not know better before messing with Amrit, who is a trained professional. Amrit has seen a lot more deaths in his life than the number of people that Fani has killed or looted. The film does not take its time to let the viewers acclimatize to the deaths as the story keeps on moving on.

Kill makes for a very thrilling, blood-curdling thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout.
