Kidnap (Thai BL) – Season 1 Episode 1 Recap & Review

 The Big Secret Job

Kidnap episode 1 welcomes us into the world of Min, currently working as a stand-in to pay for his younger brother’s medical bills. By all accounts, Min is a hard worker, but life hit him harder than most. He is the sole guardian of his younger brother, Men, and is struggling financially. The situation has gotten so dire that he has been forced to put up their home for sale. He also owes a debt collector a large sum of money. On top of all this, his brother just had surgery to install a new pacemaker in his heart and the medical bills are piling up.

It is at this point that James, a friend of Min, comes to his rescue, or so we thought! James offers Min a job involving a real gun and promises him hefty pay. As expected, Min is wary and passes on the offer, instead he chooses to be a stand-in for a different project. James drops the matter and sends the new script to Min. However, after a message from the hospital reminding him of the pending medical bills and a visit from the debt collector, Min grows desperate.

The next day, Min has a chance encounter with a random stranger on the streets. Due to an innocent misunderstanding, they end up fighting and vow to get back at each other if they ever meet again. The stranger is none other than Q. Q is the son of the Police General, Mr Kacha. Currently, Kacha is investigating a warehouse fire linked to drug cartels.

The police have arrested one suspect, Mr Pond, but they are determined to go after the big bosses. Yada, the drug mafia and her men visit Kacha at his home to bribe him and get offended when he turns them down. They run into Q on their way out and smile suspiciously as they leave. Q tries to convince his dad to quit his job, but the old man refuses.

Meanwhile, James convinces Min to come with him to a secret club run by Suea, one of Yada’s men. Min is surprised when James meets up with a man and picks up a gun. Out of curiosity, he asks what the real job is. James reveals that they have been hired to kidnap someone. The next day, James sends Min details of their victim and a picture. Sadly, they are supposed to kidnap Q. Min is hesitant since he doesn’t understand the motive behind the kidnap. However, James assures him that it is just a minor quarrel between rich people. They just have to finish the job and be on their way.

For the rest of the day, Min and James trail Q, waiting for the perfect chance to kidnap him. Min starts having second thoughts after following Q into a guitar store and watching him play. Ugh! Not the guitar trope again! We will let it slide since no one sang and Q looked so cute and happy playing. After Min shows some hesitation, James capitalises on his desperation to get him back in line.

Later that night, Q visits a bar and gets drunk. This gives James and Min the perfect chance to quickly overpower Q and grab him when he leaves the bar. They take him to a secret location and James leaves Min in charge as he goes to meet with the client. Min wakes up and starts demanding to be freed and recognises Min. Min pulls a gun on him and orders him to keep quiet. After a while, Q starts trying to negotiate with Min. He offers Min double the payment and promises not to report him. However, Min remains unmoved. Q switches tactics and tries to grab Min’s gun when he gets close enough to give him water, but fails.

The episode ends with James calling Min and asking him to kill Q. The client now wants the handsome young man dead. Q starts begging and screaming for his life. Hesitantly, Min pulls the trigger but doesn’t kill Q. He covers Q’s mouth with one hand while holding the phone with the other. He informs James that the job is done.

The Episode Review

It has been so long since we last so OhmLeng on our screens and it is so good to see them. The first episode didn’t disappoint and set the stage for the unprecedented relationship between Q and Min. It makes us wonder, though, if will this be a classic tale of Stockholm syndrome. How will Q trust Min enough to fall in love with him?

What happens next? James would probably want to see Q’s body and ask how an amateur like Min managed to dispose of it. There is also the fact that Q is the Police General’s son. Kacha will probably stop at nothing to find out what happened to his son. This is certainly going to be an exciting show as it arouses curiosity in the viewers.
