Khel Khel Mein Plot Summary
A group of old friends gather for the wedding of Vartika Malik’s sister. Vartika is a novelist who is married to a plastic surgeon named Rishabh Malik. Rishabh is an amorous man who often lies to get out of tricky situations. He also flirts with many women. Rishabh is friends with Samar, Kabir and Harpreet.
Samar is the younger brother of Rishabh’s childhood friend and considers Rishabh to be his brotherly figure. He is married to Naina, the daughter of his boss. Harpreet and Happy are an arranged marriage couple who are having several communication issues. Kabir is a high school coach who is dating a young woman.
The friends get together after the dance party and decide to play a game upon Vartika’s suggestion. The seven friends have to keep their phones unlocked on the table throughout the night which could expose their deepest, darkest secrets.
What secrets are exposed in the game?
With the phones unlocked, it is revealed that Harpreet has a gambling addiction and that he owes Rs 35 Lakhs ($41,685) to someone. Moreover, he is also still in love with his high school girlfriend who sends him semi-nude photos every night.
Happy, on the other hand, is secretly looking for a sperm donor without Harpreet’s consent. This is because Harpreet has a low sperm count but is hiding this from his family. It is also revealed that Kabir was fired from his job due to reasons he refuses to tell his friends.
Rishabh gets an email from an escort service, asking him to rate their services. Vartika lies to Rishabh about flirting with a young man on her girl’s trip in Spain.
Naina reveals that she was tracking Samar’s car after the accident in which he killed someone. She also reveals that her father’s assistant, Malti is her stepmother but has kept the fact a secret from Samar.
Samar gets a voice note from Malti and it is revealed that he was hooking up with his wife’s step-mother to get ahead in his career.
What happens to Happy and Harpreet? What is Kabir’s secret?
Harpreet switches his phone with Kabir to conceal his gambling addiction and his affair. However, Kabir gets a voice message from his boyfriend. The group assumes that Harpreet is gay.
Happy loses her mind and gets drunk. Samar gets upset with Harpreet for lying to him. Eventually, Kabir comes out to his friends and reveals that he was fired because of his sexuality.
Do Samar and Naina split?
When Samar’s secret about hooking up with Naina’s stepmother is revealed, she loses her mind. Naina takes more of her anti-depressants. Vartika tries to calm her down but Naina manages to get on the rooftop and tries to end her life.
Samar also gets onto the rooftop and tells Naina that he took accountability for the accident that Malti had caused. He adds that he wanted to get ahead in his career and had no idea that Malti was related to her. Samar jumps off the roof but is saved due to the cloth that was tied around as a wedding decoration. Rishabh slaps Samar for trying to end his life.
Is Rishabh cheating on Vartika?
Just then, Vartika’s parents tell Rishabh that the groom – Varun had fled. He decides to go look for Varun at the airport but Vartika, Happy, Harpreet, Samar, Naina and Kabir join him. On the ride there, Rishabh reveals that he knew the truth about Vartika’s Spanish fling and also reveals that Vartika wanted to use the secrets revealed in the game for her novel.
He finds Varun at the airport and convinces him to go back to the wedding venue. Naina tells Vartika and the rest of the group that Rishabh had never cheated on Vartika, adding that the escort service was booked by Varun for his bachelor’s party.
How does Khel Khel Mein end?
Happy and Harpreet decide to give their relationship another chance and communicate their feelings better. Naina also forgives Samar and asks her driver to take the necklace that Samar had gifted Malti, insinuating that she was taking her husband back. Kabir finally embraces his sexuality and meets his boyfriend after the wedding.
Vartika decides to give her relationship with Rishabh another shot. The film ends with Kadambari texting Rishabh that she misses him. Kadambari is the same woman that Rishabh was flirting with on the flight ride to the wedding.
