What Happened In Episode 2?

Kaiju No. 8 episode 2 opens with Mina rallying her troops to find the hospital’s kaiju (Kafka). Meanwhile, Kafka and Reno escape the hospital. Kafka demonstrates different abilities during their travels. Eventually, the two arrive at a cordon, but Kafka senses a yoju in the area. Mina and her troops pick up on this yoju and plan to confront it. Kafka arrives at the yoju’s location and punches it across the city to protect a little girl and her mother.

Reno arrives to assist him with the two. Kafka finishes the yoju off in a single blow and the little girl thanks him for saving her. Later, Mina arrives and the little girl informs her about the good kaiju that saved her and her mother. Three months pass. Reno receives two envelopes from his boss. Reno learns he and Kafka passed the first selection test phase.

Reno leaves to tell Kafka and the two bicker about Kafka’s kaiju form. Kafka reverts to his human form and tells Reno he’s more concerned about the selection test’s second phase. The two arrive at this phase’s test site. They argue with a participant named Kikoru. Kikoru demonstrates her strength and shares her goal with them. The episode closes with Kikoru telling Kafka that he smells like a kaiju.
