Kagurabachi Chapter 44 Recap & Review

The Curtain Falls

Chapter 44 of Kagurabachi begins with several people shouting. We learn through them that Kyora has died. Meanwhile, the two Kamunabi members depart from the Rakuzaichi Auction Event. Then, several attendees head toward the Shinuchi Enchanted Blade (Shinuchi). Shiba teleports to Chihiro’s side while carrying Hakuri on his back.

Chihiro grabs the Shinuchi. Shiba and the others vanish and appear outside of the Rakuzaichi Auction Event. Shiba notices Chihiro’s missing. Simultaneously, Hiyuki places her foot on the Shinuchi and realizes it’s safe to touch. Hiyuki tells Chihiro she’s taking the Enten Enchanted Blade (Enten) and the Shinuchi. Chihiro realizes Tafuku ruined his chance to escape with Shiba and Hakuri.

Also, Chihiro realizes he, Hiyuki, and Tafuku are in Tafuku’s “alternate space.” Before Shiba returns to grab Chihiro, the Rakuzaichi Auction Event site collapses. Hiyuki, Tafuku, and Chihiro leave the Rakuzaichi Auction Event site. Shiba notices Hiyuki’s carrying the Shinuchi. Hiyuki says she and Chihiro made a deal.

Hakuri asks Chihiro what he discussed with Hiyuki. Chihiro dodges the question. He asks Hakuri what his plans are. Hakuri says he won’t be worrying about his family anymore. We learn through a flashback that Shiba told Soya to return to his home. He wants Soya to lead the remaining Sazanami Family members down a brighter path for Tenri’s sake.

Hakuri says without his father he has no purpose. Chihiro tells Hakuri to look at Yuu and his sister. Yuu and his sister are hugging each other. Chihiro tells Hakuri that Hakuri saved them. Hakuri asks Chihiro if he can continue fighting by his side to prove his worth. After that, we receive a flashback. This flashback highlights what happened between Chihiro, Tafuku, and Hiyuki.

Chihiro is unsure if he should give the Shinuchi to the Kamunabi. He also explains what the Hishaku’s leader’s plans are with the Shinuchi. Nonetheless, Chihiro gives Hiyuki the Shinuchi. Hiyuki promises to defeat any future enemies. Moreover, Chihiro knows the Kamunabi want Enten. Chihiro argues he needs more intel on what his father refused to tell him in the past.

The chapter ends with Chihiro asking Hiyuki to let him join the Kamunabi. 

The Chapter Review

The Rakuzaichi Auction Event story arc, much like the site itself, has come to an end. This arc was leagues better than the previous arc, giving Shonen fanatics a wonderful tale of tragedy and family values. Additionally, the chapter gave us closure on the remaining Sazanami Family members’ plans. From Hakuri’s recruitment to Soya helping the newer Sazanami generation with their lives, this family received a bittersweet finale. 

Also, it was nice seeing Yuu reunite with his older sister. Losing a loved one can take a huge toll on anyone’s mental state. Moreover, it feels rewarding and earned, considering what Yuu attempted to do at the start of this story arc. Hopefully, those two can find a way to live their remaining lives together without issues. 

Additionally, Chihiro’s decision at the end of the chapter makes sense. Chihiro’s deal with Hiyuki and Tafuku makes logical sense, considering how dangerous these Enchanted Blades are. Also, it opens the door for Chihiro to learn more about the Kamunabi higher-ups. Potentially, Chihiro can gain new information about the Hishaku leader by joining the Kamunabi’s side. 

All in all, this was an enjoyable way to wrap up this story arc. I’m excited to read what Takeru Hokazono has planned for the next one.
