Jujutsu Kaisen – Season 2 Episode 16 Recap & Review

Thunderclap

Episode 16 of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 begins with Megumi fighting Toji. Panda tells Kusakabe they should focus on finding Satoru instead of helping the populace. Kusakabe tells Panda it’s better for them to save humans but in reality, Kusakabe wants to avoid the fifth-floor underground area at all costs.

Suddenly, a few enemies arrive and challenge Kusakabe and Panda to a fight. While Megumi and Toji continue fighting, Masamichi explains to Shoko her role in this matter. Toji gets a closer look at Megumi, realizing he’s his son but older. Toji recalls a time when he tried selling Megumi to Naobito and an instance with his wife.

In the present, he asks Megumi for his name. He answers and Toji knocks himself out. Megumi plans to visit Ieiri soon and wants to check on the others’ safety. However, Shigemo attacks him from behind while we cut to a flashback involving Nanako and others. She argues that they focus on helping Suguru get his body back from his doppelganger but they refuse to help her.

We transition to two of Suguru’s followers warning Kusakabe and Panda to stand aside. They all stop as a battle between Jogo and Sukuna ensues. After using one of the powerful Meteor attacks, Sukuna and Jogo pause their battle for a few minutes to discuss things.

Before they unleash their fire techniques at each other, Jogo speaks with Hanami and Dagon about Mahito, rebirth, and wanting to attain a status similar to humans. Sukuna finds Jogo’s desires dull but acknowledges his strength. After murdering Jogo, Uraume arrives.

The episode closes with a hulking beast walking toward Shigemo while Megumi’s lying on the pavement unconscious.

The Episode Review

Jujutsu Kaisen delivers another stunning action-packed episode for fans to watch this week. Not only that but things conclude on a sorrowful note for Jogo’s fandom, but at least he’ll be joining his fallen comrades in the afterlife. From Toji’s fight with Megumi to Sukuna’s battle with Jogo, the anime’s visuals remain consistently pleasant for the eyes and haven’t digressed in quality. While the physical side of the bouts knocked it out of the park, the story-driven aspects of the battles could’ve been more impactful.

Many will be disappointed Toji didn’t have a significant moment with Megumi. While it was nice for him to semi-recognize him as his son, many would’ve loved it if they had a more significant and emotional moment together. Whether it would’ve been a scene of them discussing life or something of that nature, it feels like Toji’s inclusion in this arc was a bit wasted. Fortunately, Jogo’s battle with Sukuna carries weight and classy visuals. Not only does it offer viewers a fanciful battle but it delivers a touching send-off for his character. Granted, it would’ve been lovely to see it expanded upon further. However, it gives viewers something to ponder over.

Overall, this was a genuinely enjoyable episode of Jujutsu Kaisen. It contains your typical glorious battle sequences with sprinkles of emotional dialogue. I’m interested to see how Shigemo plans to deal with the hulking beast and what will occur between Sukuna and Uraume next week.
