Red Scale
Episode 13 of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 begins with Yuji and Choso fighting. Chose asks Yuji what the final words of the two men he killed were and Yuji says he doesn’t remember. However, he tells Chose that he remembers seeing one of them cry, angering Choso. This is because these men were his brothers Eso and Kechizu. They continue fighting each other and Yuji analyzes Choso’s movement to see if he can outmaneuver Choso’s technique. Mechamaru calls Yuji and tells him to visit the bathroom.
He has a way for him to overcome Choso’s technique. Mechamaru taunts Choso to head into the bathroom. After destroying one of Mechamaru’s devices, Yuji attacks Choso. Choso realizes his Convergence has been lifted. The narrator explains why Mechamaru’s water bathroom plan succeeded and led to the Convergence being lifted through science. Yuji and Choso continue fighting. Choso knocks Yuji into a wall, making him unconscious.
Sukuna scolds Yuji for losing to a nobody. Suddenly, Choso feels a weird sensation in his body. The narrator says he’s recounting non-existent memories of Yuji eating dinner with him, Eso, and Kechizu. Choso wonders why Yuji appeared in that memory and why he recalled the said moment, to begin with.
The episode closes with two females finding Yuji’s unconscious body and planning something.
The Episode Review
There’s not much to say this week other than “wow.” This episode was pure action from start to finish with hints of dialogue scattered throughout. The dialogue was mostly explanatory intel pertaining to Choso’s techniques with a few emotional exchanges between him and Yuji. You can tell Choso put his all into this fight with Yuji considering his feelings toward Eso and Kechizu’s deaths.
The fight itself was immaculate and demonstrated Studio Mappa’s excellence with cinematography. From the first-person camera angles to the fluid exchanges between Yuji and Choso in multiple locales, viewers were in for a solid treat this week from an animation point-of-view. Top it off with a mind-numbing memory scene involving Yuji and Choso and you have yourself a memorable episode.
As for the cliffhanger, it seems these females have some plans for Yuji’s body. We can guarantee it has something to do with Sukuna, so we’ll have to see what comes out of that next week. Overall, this was a marvelous action-packed episode despite not offering much from a contextual lens. However, it’s nice to receive a break from info-heavy chapters and embrace one for its simplicity and grandeur.
