Jujutsu Kaisen’s universe is thoughtful and creative. It’s brimming with enough mysteries, shocking revelations, and interesting physical confrontations to keep viewers on board for the ride. It’s a story that’ll leave audiences craving more and one that gets deeper the more it continues.
Being the geeks that we are over here, we’ll be diving deep into the rich concepts and lore of Jujutsu Kaisen, shedding light on the elements that make this story such a marvel to anime and manga veterans and newcomers alike.
Who Is Master Tengen?
Before we delve into the facts and importance of the Star Plasma Vessel, it’s important for fans to understand who Master Tengen is and their role in the Jujutsu Kaisen universe. Master Tengen is a jujutsu sorcerer with the innate Jujutsu technique called Immortality. Based on its name alone, viewers can assume this allows Tengen to live forever. However, with great power, comes a great problem.
In Jujutsu Kaisen, Tengen’s Immortality is a curse for them. This curse could lead Tengen to experience strange changes to their body, wiping away their will and self-consciousness. Ultimately, there’s a possibility Tengen can become a cursed spirit and pose a threat to the Jujutsu Kaisen universe.
As for Tengen himself, he’s solely responsible for establishing balance in the Jujutsu world. He does so by enhancing the barriers surrounding Jujutsu High locations. Without his barriers, Jujustu society would plunder.
What Is The Star Plasma Vessel?
As for the Star Plasma Vessel, this is a human vessel, typically a young woman, Master Tengen needs to prevent himself from evolving past humanity. Otherwise, he’ll become a threat to the Jujutsu Kaisen universe. Tengen must merge with this vessel after every 500 years. This new body will keep Master Tengen maintained for the next 500 years.
More than one Star Plasma Vessel can be born into the Jujutsu Kaisen world. However, only those with high potential will be selected for the merger. During Season 2, a young Satoru and Suguru were tasked with delivering the new Star Plasma Vessel, Riko Amanai to Master Tengen, but ran into a few issues along the way involving two villainous groups and a warrior named Toji Fushiguro.
What Is the Significance Behind the Star Plasma Vessel?
As mentioned earlier, Tengen is an important figure in the Jujutsu Kaisen mythos. They’re responsible for balancing the power within the world through the barriers they create. With Tengen’s barriers, the balance and security surrounding the various Jujutsu High sites will collapse, leading to several issues.
Not only will jujutsu sorcerers struggle to tackle missions, but Tengen can become humanity’s sole enemy instead of its protector. While the Star Plasma Vessel process has its saddening aspects, it’s important for the Vessel to merge with Tengen every 500 years to protect the innocent and jujutsu sorcerers alike from suffering a horrible fate.
What Happened To Riko Amanai?
After Toji Fushiguro defeated Satoru in battle, he trailed Suguru, Riko, and Misato and headed for the Tombs of the Star Corridor chamber to conduct the merging process. Misato stays behind but shares a heartfelt goodbye with Riko. Once they reach the chamber, Suguru points Riko in the proper direction. Suguru gives Riko the option to leave.
While she was fine with perishing during the merger, Riko tells Suguru that she wishes she could’ve spent more time with her companions. Suguru reveals he knew Riko would feel this way, so he spoke with Satoru prior to their mission and planned to prevent her from merging with Tengen despite knowing the consequences behind it.
Unfortunately, Toji shoots Riko, defeats Suguru in combat, and delivers her to the Star Religious Group HQ. Thankfully, Satoru arrives at the HQ, defeats Toji, recovers Riko’s lifeless body from the Star Religious Group, and completes his and Suguru’s mission.
In Conclusion
Jujutsu Kaisen is a fantastic manga series with an equally enjoyable anime adaptation. Unlike other Shonen Jump projects that end up getting axed, Jujutsu Kaisen struck fans at their core. This is thanks to the series’s stellar writing, world-building, and cast. While it has its joyous action-centric bits, the story isn’t afraid to delve into darker areas.
