What Are The Different Schools In Jujutsu Kaisen?
As with many shonen stories that take place in a modern setting, there are bound to be several educational districts scattered about. While the story features your usual school districts where students participate in mundane studies and hobbies, there are several noteworthy facilities fans should know about. We’ve listed them below for your reading pleasure.
Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School (Jujutsu High)
Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School (or Jujutsu High) is one of two Jujutsu schools in Jujutsu Kaisen. It’s hidden within the Tokyo outskirts thanks to Master Tengen, a prolific jujutsu sorcerer’s barrier. Moreover, Master Tengen’s shrine called the Tomb of the Star is located somewhere below Jujutsu High. Ultimately, Jujutsu High is a place that trains upcoming jujutsu sorcerers and features alumni who’ve gone on to become proficient sorcerers and staff at the school.
Furthermore, Jujutsu High was established by Jujutsu HQ as an institution for education, guidance, and supervision. It’s led by a principal who oversees all its affairs regarding its sorcerers. Jujutsu HQ appoints people to this position based on the recommendations they receive from the three major sorcerer families. Jujutsu HQ often clashes with Satoru, like in the case of them wanting to execute Yuji and Yuta.
Jujutsu High’s curriculum involves training sorcerers to control their curses and use them to exorcise other curses. Classes are small but maintain a tight grasp on their students’ progress. Moreover, students are forced to live in campus dormitories and tackle investigative and exorcising missions to raise their ranks. When they leave campus grounds to complete missions in this regard, they’re always supervised by a manager or high-ranked sorcerer.
The faculty behind this school are Masamichi Yaga, Satoru Gojo, Atsuya Kusakabe, Kiyotaka Ijichi, Shoko Ieiri, and Akari Nitta. The students who attend it are Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro, Nobara Kugisaki, Maki Zenin, Toge Inumaki, Panda, Yuta Okkotsu, Kinji Hakari, and Kirara Hoshi.
Kyoto Prefectural Jujutsu High School (Kyoto Jujutsu High)
Kyoto Jujutsu High is the sister school of Tokyo Jujutsu High. Like its companion facility, its goal is to foster the next generation of jujutsu sorcerers. Unfortunately, the school has yet to appear in the mainline series but follows the same structure and principals we’ve mentioned about Tokyo Jujutsu High. Matters concerning missions, administration, and on-campus events are relatively similar.
However, this school is located in Jujutsu’s sacred land of Kyoto. Like Jujutsu High, this school takes part in the Kyoto Sister-School Goodwill Event. This event pits both Jujutsu Schools against each other and features teams who are comprised of first-, second-, and third-year students. This event always happens on the campus whose team won the previous year.
The faculty behind this school is Yoshinobu Gakuganji and Utahime Iori. The students who attend it are Arata Nitta, Mai Zenin, Kokichi Muta, Kasumi Miwa, Noritoshi Kamo, Aoi Todo, and Momo Nishimiya.
What Are The Different Clans/Families In Jujutsu Kaisen?
The story has introduced several notable and low-radar sorcerer clans and families. Check down below to learn more about them.
Gojo Clan/Family
The Gojo clan/family descends from one of Japan’s most renowned vengeful spirits, Michizane Sugawara. While it has many members, Satoru Gojo is the clan’s head and is considered to be the strongest among them. He’s one of the first members to be born with the legendary Six Eyes and Limitless technique. Many argue his strength represents their political influence too.
This sense of strength is one of the main reasons why Satoru likes acting selfishly during drastic situations. One example includes when he stood up for Yuji and Yuta when Jujutsu HQ wanted to murder them.
Moreover, the Gojo family/clan has bad blood with the Zenin clan. This is because the former heads of each clan killed each other.
Zenin Clan/Family
The Zenin Clan is combat-focused with a focus on value and power. Its sorcerers emphasize talent in sorcery and have no qualms to tyrannize their relatives. Their philosophy comes off as self-righteous and archaic but one shouldn’t underestimate their strength. They’re known for constructing phenomenal battle units to defend the jujutsu world, making them devoted allies.
The clan’s members consist of Naobito, Naoya, Ogi, Mai, Jinichi, Chojuro, and Nobuaki Zenin. Other folks like Megumi and Toji Fushiguro make up the Zenin clan too. As mentioned in the blurb concerning the Gojo family, they have a heated rivalry with them. The Zenin Clan is also known as one of the big three sorcerer families in Jujutsu Kaisen’s world.
Kamo Clan/Family
The Kamo Clan/Family serves as the core conservative faction of Jujutsu HQ. They’re close with the higher-ups and value tradition and blood lineage above everything. Nonetheless, this family/clan carries a dark history that shouldn’t be overlooked. For instance, they’re known for birthing one of the evilest sorcerers in history named Noritoshi Kamo.
Regardless of their horrid past times, the Kamo family/clan has earned its spot amongst the Gojo and Zenin Clans as being one of the most profound sorcerer families in the Jujutsu Kaisen world due to their exceptional talent, connections, and history. As of now, the known and past members of the Kamo family are Kenjaku, Noritoshi Kamo, Noritoshi Kamo (ancestral variant), and Noritoshi’s unnamed father.
Inumaki Clan/Family
While the Inumaki Clan/Family isn’t as prominent as the Zenin, Gojo, or Kamo families, it’s definitely worth noting here. While not much has been revealed about this family, the stories went on record to state several notable aspects about them. Gege Akutami mentions how this sorcerer clan/family is widely recognized for its cursed speech users who are marked by the Snake Eyes and Fang’s sigil across their mouths.
One of its most well-known members is Toge Inumaki. He’s known for being a direct descendant of this clan because of his mastery of cursed speech. This ability allows Toge to increase the “spirit” of words using cursed energy. Anyone who hears his commands must obey him without question.
Fujiwara Clan/Family
The Fujiwara Clan/Family, like the Inumaki Clan/Family, is another clan shrouded in intrigue and mystery. Often referred to as the Toh, the Fujiwara clan was a prominent sorcerer family during the golden era of jujutsu. This clan had two elite sorcerer units, including the Sun, Moon, and Stars Squad. This unit comprised elite assassins, led by Takako Uro.
Unfortunately, Uro was sentenced to death for killing a Fujiwara clan member. Another force under this clan’s disposal was the Five Empty Generals. However, a being named Yorozu bested them. Ultimately, Sukuna cursed both forces due to his dastardly powers and sadistic nature.
In Conclusion
Jujutsu Kaisen is a fantastic manga series with an equally enjoyable anime adaptation. Unlike other Shonen Jump projects that end up getting axed, Jujutsu Kaisen struck fans at their core. This is thanks to the series’s stellar writing, cast, and wonderful world-building. Although not all clans are created equal, they all offer a ray of excitement for things to come.
