Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 268 Recap & Review

Settling Matters

Chapter 268 of Jujutsu Kaisen begins with Sukuna tormenting Megumi. Sukuna is trying to coerce Megumi into letting him handle matters in his steed. Megumi refuses to aid Sukuna but is fascinated by the idea that someone like Sukuna fears death. Then, we return to following Yuji’s battle with Sukuna.

Sukuna gets extracted from Megumi’s body. Yuji stands above Sukuna’s helpless body, asking him what he wants to do. He tells Sukuna he’s willing to live on with him inside his body. Sukuna refuses as his body disappears, signaling his demise. Then, we return to following Hakuri and Uraume’s battle.

After Uraume and Hakuri discuss Sukuna’s defeat and the heroes’ victories, Uraume disappears. Then, we return to following Megumi, Nobara, and Yuji. Yuji and Nobara wanted to surprise Megumi with Nobara’s survival. However, Megumi doesn’t give them the best reaction.

Yuji admits he cried when he discovered Nobara’s fate and Megumi says he learned about it while under Sukuna’s control. Then, Yuji presents Megumi and Nobara with letters Ieiri wanted them to read. Nobara’s not happy with her letter. As for Megumi, he laughs at his letter.

Then, Nobara insists Yuji and Megumi follow her somewhere. She tells them that they must save Yuta from several people. The chapter ends with our trio planning to meet up with Maki, Panda, and the others who survived Sukuna’s warpath.

The Chapter Review

Sukuna was finally defeated and we got a “peek” at Hakuri and Uraume’s duel. Although some will enjoy this ongoing battle’s harmonious outcome, others will not. The jujutsu sorcerer gauntlet we received in this arc may have alluded to the notion that Gege Akutami may have been writing himself in a corner.

Additionally, Chapter 268 shows that this arc had multiple missed opportunities. Some instances include Nobara’s lack of screentime to the small amount of focus given to Hakuri and Uraume’s duel. The latter especially feels like wasted potential. It feels like Akutami included that scenario in this chapter as a part of a mental “to-do list.” It’s a shame but it’s slightly satisfying knowing most of our heroes will walk away smiling.

Although Sukuna’s defeat felt lackluster, it was great seeing him stand his ground. If Akutami had gone the Kurama and Naruto route with Sukuna and Yuji, we could see many fans disliking that decision. Therefore, it’s great that Sukuna refused Yuji’s request.

But all in all, this chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen wasn’t all that great. Nonetheless, we’re interested to see how Akutami plans to wrap his story up.
