Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 265 Recap & Review

That Day

Chapter 265 of Jujutsu Kaisen begins with Yuji telling Sukuna that he doesn’t know much about their current location. Yuji doesn’t know if this is his domain expansion realm either. Yuji asks Sukuna to walk with him outside. Yuji learns he and Sukuna are in Sendai, Yuji’s hometown. During their stroll, Yuji brings up his grandfather’s friend’s funeral.

Then, the two visit a park. Yuji informs Sukuna about the activities he participated in at this park. He discusses hydrangea flowers with Sukuna. Yuji participates in a crayfish-catching activity with Sukuna. Eventually, the two arrive at Koiwai Farm. Yuji reflects on the activities that happened here. He competes in a short archery contest with Sukuna.

Sukuna stops Yuji. Yuji tells Sukuna that he views life differently now. Instead of fulfilling a specific role, Yuji argues he can serve any role. Yuji says he despises Sukuna for various reasons. He showed Sukuna his memories because he wanted Sukuna to understand that people have value. Sukuna understands but tells Yuji this isn’t emotionally affecting him.

While chatting with Yuji, Sukuna wonders if Yuji pities him. Yuji tells Sukuna he can kill him. However, if Sukuna abandons his control of Megumi, Yuji will spare Sukuna’s life. Also, Yuji says he’ll let Sukuna stay inside his body if he accepts this peaceful deal. Sukuna refuses.

The chapter ends with Sukuna telling Yuji he wants to kill him and everyone he holds dear.

The Chapter Review

As some will argue, you don’t need to have men and women clashing 24/7 to deliver a great chapter for a Shonen story. Despite lacking adrenaline-pumping fights as usual, this chapter gives Jujutsu Kaisen fans a deep overview of Yuji’s childhood. It also serves as a unique way of having our heroic lead attempt to reason with the current villain, Sukuna.

While some will criticize this for being a “talk no jutsu” schtick popularized by Masashi Kishimoto’s Shonen series Narutoothers will appreciate Gege Akutami for tackling this idea in a similar yet distinct way. Moreover, it’s great seeing Sukuna refuse Yuji’s peace treaty. It would’ve made all the losses we’ve seen in the previous chapters feel semi-meaningless.

Also, more fans would rather see the King of the Curses suffer a terrible demise. Hopefully, Yuji’s not bluffing and has a way to stop Sukuna. Otherwise, all hope will be lost for this world. Next to having great tonal shifts, wonderful artwork, and possible confirmations for a certain character’s passing, this was a great chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen

I’m excited to see Yuji fight Sukuna. Hopefully, we’ll receive a great outcome from that.
