Mind-boggling, thrilling yet emotional

The world of horror keeps expanding with streaming platforms like Netflix and Prime Video taking over the task of producing genre-specific shows from all over the world. Joko Anwar is a pretty famous filmmaker who is known for his Indonesian horror films over the past decade.

With Netflix releasing a 7-part TV show titled – Joko Anwar’s Nightmares and Daydreams, many of his fans were curious about the title of this horror show as well as the drama around it.

The show, Joko Anwar’s Nightmares and Daydreams narrates the story of a group of individuals who fight the evil forces in their respective lives. These do-gooders come together to fight against the antibodies as evil rises in the world. The show has seven episodes in total, all of which can be watched in the form of an anthology series.

The episodes initially do not have a connection whatsoever but then turn out to form a connection that the viewers never saw coming. The show ends on such a note that leaves viewers hopeful for another season, however, it is not clear whether it will be at the time of writing.

Joko Anwar’s Nightmares and Daydreams is interesting to watch and takes more of the thriller route as compared to the horror genre. Some episodes are scary to watch but the show tends to become an emotional watch as each episode presents a life lesson towards the end. The stories are psychologically thrilling and make for a perfect weekend binge.

However, there is room for viewers to take their time while watching this as the episodes are not interconnected. Viewers also have the liberty to watch the show in any order and there are some episodes that viewers will enjoy more than the others. Several characters are very impactful and will remain with you even after you have finished watching Joko Anwar’s Nightmares and Daydreams.

The show has great music running in the background and the VFX also had done a good job to some extent. Given the fact that the streaming giant – Netflix is backing up this project, it was expected that the show to have much better CGI and VFX scenes. However, the show’s USP is its story and the idea of good overcoming evil.

The final episode of Joko Anwar’s Nightmares and Daydreams finally answers questions that many viewers will have about the show. We see an Avengers-esque ending to the first season of this one which leaves many viewers hopeful for Nightmares and Daydreams to be renewed.
