Episode 12
Episode 12 of Jack & Joker begins with Hope taking the boys to where Jack and Save are being held. They split up with Aran, Tattoo and Hoi distracting the guards.
Who wins the Hangman game?
Jack enters the abandoned factory and Boss is amused. He offers Jack a deal – win Hangman to save his friends or lose and they all die. But with Jack playing on Joke’s behalf and Boss choosing Rose, no one is present to play for Save. He automatically loses and Boss goes to activate the bomb on Save’s neck.
At the same time, Hope sneaks into the comms centre. Carbon catches him but he knocks him out with Tattoo’s tranquilizer and successfully unlocks Save’s bomb just before Boss can activate it. Save runs away and promises to bring help. Errors show up for Rose and Joke’s bombs and with more guards showing up, an apologetic Hope runs off.
Back to the game, Boss switches players and has Jack guess Rose’s word. The first round is uneventful till it is Boss’ turn. He is confident that Joke’s word is “sorry.” but he is surprised when there is no ‘s’ in the word. In the second round, Jack guesses Rose’s word correctly – “d*ckhead” and wins. Joke’s word is “zorry” and he jokes that he doesn’t know English well. Furious, Boss goes back on the deal and decides to kill them all.
How does the gang help Jack, Joke and Rose?
Aran loses the guards only to find a bunch of debtors being held captive and Toi Ting’s father is one of them. Aran begs them to fight back for the kids’ sake and they all agree as they start attacking the guards who have followed him. Meanwhile, Ruk and Yom corner Save but Hope comes to his rescue.
He tries to reason with his former minions but they are afraid to go against Boss. A fight ensues but Hope takes them down and tries to flee with Save. But Save refuses as they are the only ones who can help Jack.
Hoi and Tattoo are stopped by Carbon who easily takes them down. He is about to shoot when Hope and Save interfere. Hoi grabs the gun which allows Hope and Save to run to Jack. However, Hoi is a horrible shot and he accidentally shoots Tattoo in the butt. Carbon laughs before knocking Hoi out.
Aran, Save, Hope and Carbon all arrive inside and a struggle ensues. Aran tries to grab the tablet controlling the bombs from Boss and it falls, just out of Joke’s reach. Hope tries to deactivate the bombs but has to rush to Save’s side when Carbon brutally beats him up. Carbon knocks him out as well and grabs the tablet.
How are the Four Horsemen involved?
Jack steals a guard’s gun and kills all the guards as he rushes to stop Boss from hurting Aran. But he has to run back down as Carbon gets his hand on the tablet. Carbon makes a deal with him, he will give the tablet back should Jack beat him in Taekwondo. As they fight, they get near Joke who kicks away the tablet and holds Carbon till Jack breaks his leg. But Boss arrives and gleefully grabs the tablet. He wonders if they have any last words and Jack hugs Joke.
They patch up as Jack refuses to leave Joke, deciding to die with him. They kiss and Boss simply activates the bombs. However, nothing happens and suddenly they hear Nang and the Four Horsemen laughing who have been watching the whole thing from the CCTVs. Turns out it has all been a game and there is no such magical ring which holds power. They made it up to toy with Boss.
A flashback shows Rose’s father sending a spy to deactivate the bombs once Carbon leaves the comms centre. At present, Nang declares that Boss has cheated and the punishment is erasure and seizure of all assets. He is shocked by her betrayal and she simply shares that she did not agree with his revenge plan. Even Rose is upset as she and her friends have been used as pawns for the Four Horsemen’s amusement.
What happens in the aftermath of the games?
3 days later, the gang visits Hope and Tattoo in the hospital. Toi Ting is up and about as well and can’t wait to resume her classes. Joke invites Dr. Suthi to the school and he agrees to visit.
But their spirits are dampened when they learn that nobody will be held accountable as the Four Horsemen have destroyed all evidence. Carbon has been arrested and Aran and Boss have moved into a small apartment. Boss tries to kill himself and overdoses on pills. He sees his wife and she calls him out for cheating people. He hopes to redeem himself with death but she tells him to live and make amends. In the real world, Aran begs him to wake up and calls for help.
The gang meets up and we learn that Boss is now bedridden in the hospital. There is a new boss in Suphanimit and they worry if he is worse than Boss. Jack tells them not to worry and it is Save.
What happens at the school event?
Jack and Joke hold a ceremony at the school where they make Save the guest of honour. He is nervous and stutters in his speech which amuses everyone. Next, Jack gives his speech as the school’s director and thanks everyone for their support. The debt-free project has resumed as well. Rose and Aran bicker but it is friendly. Toi Ting also gets an award for her bravery.
After the ceremony, Rose confronts Nang who tries to explain that she couldn’t stop the Four Horsemen as she is never heard. She simply tried to restore balance in whichever way she could. Rose claims that she always listened and is sad that Nang manipulated her. With Nang being apologetic, Rose asks for her help in reforming the Four Horsemen. Joke’s family arrives too and they are proud of him.
At the end of Jack & Joker Episode 12, Jack and Joke hang out at the now-empty school. Joke shows him his book of 100 ways to repay him but Jack doesn’t care as he simply wants them to stay together. They exchange rings – his parents’ engagement ring and the fake one which Jack claims he stole from Boss. Joke is shocked before Jack reveals he just asked Aran for them. They laugh and bicker over ice cream before kissing each other.
The Episode Review
And with Jack & Joker Episode 12, this fun Thai BL comes to an end. The chapter has all the makings of an exciting finale while staying true to the show’s style and tone. The emotional stakes are high with the Hangman game but we still get some comedic elements like Joke and Rose’s guess words, Hoi and Tattoo fighting, and Hope fighting his former minions.
As for that shocking plot twist, it truly is so well done which we doubt anyone could have predicted. Sure, the Four Horsemen are the bad guys, but it allows our characters closure from the one bad guy targeting them – Boss.
It also finally explains the whole one-ring-to-rule-them-all fiasco which we were truly scared would never be resolved. But all those irrational plot tropes finally make sense such as Rose’s parents abandoning her, the 3 Horsemen indulging Boss and Nang toying with her brother.
As for our gang, they all get their time to shine including Rose who we are so glad didn’t just brush Nang’s betrayal under the rug. We just wish Aran hadn’t so easily accepted the role of his father’s caretaker, especially after Boss hurt him physically and mentally. But Boss seems to have gotten a fitting punishment.
Meanwhile, Joke reunites with his mother too while Jack gets a full circle moment by finally beating Carbon. And well, with Joke and Jack finally getting their happily ever after, we couldn’t have asked for a better ending.
