Jack & Joker: U Steal My Heart – Season 1 Episode 4 Recap & Review

Episode 4

Episode 4 of Jack & Joker: U Steal My Heart begins with Jack visiting his next target, Khajorn who is again a friend. However, he is an alcoholic who spends his money on booze. With no money, his kid Toi Ting drops out of school but he could care less as he offers her to Jack in exchange of him covering his debt temporarily.

Jack doesn’t have the money and Khajorn wishes Robin Hood would help him. Father-daughter gushes over the thief who has returned all debtors’ pawned-off items but Jack is annoyed as he knows the thief is none other than Joke. We see that even Tattoo tries to return Jack’s ring but he refuses and Joke decides to give it to Jack’s grandma.

Joke heads to the morning market where Grandma is selling chive dumplings. He hesitates to give the ring and is interrupted by scammers who try to rob Grandma. Grandma and Joke beat up the scammers and end up befriending each other. Her back hurts and Joke pushes the cart back home.

On the way, she gathers that he is Jack’s friend and he tells her about the fake loan in a roundabout way. She shares that Jack loves or hates with all his heart but since Joke is remorseful, she is sure they can resolve the matter.

Meanwhile, Hope catches onto Hoi’s identity as he rented the getaway van with his real address. But neither Tattoo nor Hoi are smart enough and he believes that Jack must be the mastermind. Boss shows up and asks for the necklace as it is his wife’s and Aran comes up with a lie. Boss lets it go but warns that should something go wrong, he will destroy Aran.

Back home, Grandma feeds Joke and tells him all about Jack. His parents wanted to expand their restaurant and borrowed from Boss. However, their luck ran out and in hopes of cashing the life insurance, they jumped off a bridge. Unfortunately, the policy does not cover suicide.

Tired from beating the scammers, she takes a nap while Joke starts cleaning up the place. Later, Toi Ting and Jack arrive to think Joke is attacking her. Joke is about to beat him up when Grandma explains that he was massaging her shoulders. She sings his praises and even invites him to dinner. Jack is unhappy and she assumes it is a lover’s quarrel. A cheeky Joke plays along till Jack drags him out.

He blames Joke for all his problems and points out that if he runs away with the ring, Boss will think he stole everything. But Joke believes that Grandma should have a say in the matter and offers a deal – Jack should think it over and ask Grandma; if he does, Joke will leave him alone for good.

If Jack refuses, Joke will give the ring to Grandma immediately. Frustrated, Jack agrees as he takes the ring. He also points out that Aran’s men are searching for the thieves and Joke needs to hide. Of course, Joke takes it as an invitation to hide at Grandma’s.

Jack heads back to work and Joke starts repairing his chair and table. Toi Ting helps him and also wonders if he likes Jack which has Joke all flustered. In between, Save pops by and is curious about the new guest. Grandma, Toi Ting and Joke are on high alert but Jack trusts Save.

Meanwhile, Hope’s men kidnap Hoi who has yet to run away. As for Tattoo, he and his mom hide at Miss Nang’s shrine. While his mom is enlisted to sell temple wares, Tattoo is give dishwasher duty till he gets a call from Hoi. He is lured to Aran’s suite where Hope knocks him out. His men, Rak and Yom ransack the shrine and when they don’t find the necklace, beat the helpers. Miss Nang and her guards arrive and easily take down the two thugs.

They run back only for Hope to scold them as Miss Nang has a truce with Boss. Tired of their shenanigans, Aran threatens to castrate Hoi unless he gets his necklace back. Tattoo confesses everything but now Aran wants the two thieves to do the dirty work by stealing it back from the pawn shop. At the same time, Hope hacks into Tattoo’s phone and finds the trio’s group chat.

Back home, Toi Ting once again alerts Jack of a strange man and he rushes home to find Coach Wah. Turns out the taekwondo association has been shut down because of Carbon who has been imprisoned for assault. Coach apologises for everything and wishes he hadn’t been a coward.

Jack cannot fully forgive him but believes things will get better. As the coach leaves, we see that Joke has been eavesdropping. Joke heads in and sees the repairs along with his blueprint for the learning centre. Toi Ting tries to read a book and he helps her. Grandma shares that Joke fixed the table and chair and is trying to make it up to him.

A flashback shows Jack’s parents making the study space even though they are clumsy. Grandma declares that people do foolish things for their loved ones and Jack is conflicted. He enters the bedroom and finds Joke sleep talking which amuses him. He thanks him for everything but believes he cannot keep the ring. He puts it back in Joke’s pocket and tucks him in.

Elsewhere, we see that Save and Hope are not only next-door neighbours but are also dating. Hope has printed Joke’s photo from the group chat for wanted posters but Save instantly snitches. We see that Toi Ting has been watching them and she runs to warn Jack and Joke.

Nearby, Tattoo’s mom is selling fortune packs to the shady vendor (Jennie). She runs off as Jack arrives. He is troubled and the vendor thinks he is in love. She reads his fortune and his talisman states that when the fool changes, the forgiver’s fate will change. Before he can think much of it, Toi Ting calls.

He arrives just in time to stop Hope and his men. They get into a fight but Grandma stops them and tells the thugs to search the place. They don’t find Joke and they leave with a warning.

Alone, Grandma reveals that Joke has told her everything in a letter. Jack apologises as it is not right to steal back the ring but confesses that he initially wanted to keep it. While she is proud of him, she points out that Joke sincerely wants to make it up to him.

He also makes chive dumplings for Jack which he learned from Grandma and wonders if he should become a cook. He leaves another short note for Jack, stating that Jack’s goodness has changed him. While he is unsure if they will meet again, he hopes Jack will take care of himself. Jack smiles at the note and Grandma teases him that maybe he has forgiven Joke.

At the end of Jack & Joker Episode 4, Joke goes to Aran’s hotel and announces his arrival.

The Episode Review

Jack & Joker Episode 4 finally gives the other plays more time to shine and establishes their role in the plot, expanding the world of the Thai BL. Our favourite is definitely Grandma and Toi Ting while Save’s days are numbered. Has he always been a double agent or does he truly not know about Hope and Jack’s rivalry?

Thank goodness for Toi Ting, our new saviour. As for Grandma, she is just like us, seeing through Jack and Joke’s strained relationship. Poor Jack, he truly is an open book despite pretending to be a cutthroat debt collector.

This chapter also gives us more insight into how the boys are going to go from the enemies-to-lovers trope with Jack more often than not catching himself falling for Joke. If we didn’t know any better, Joke’s whole I-need-to-make-it-up-to-him mindset may also be threatening to fall into romantic territory.
