Iwájú – Season 1 Episode 3 Recap & Review

Kole

Iwájú Episode 3 begins with Kole and his mother at a restaurant. They talk about his dreams and what they’ll do after he achieves them. They then get called by Bode.

Bode makes them an offer to let Kole work for him, promising them a good amount of money. Kole’s mother rejects the offer, claiming she has a good job and that she will be able to pay off the loan without having Kole work. Bode accepts their answer, but offers them a bundle of cash, expecting them to return the favor someday in the future.

The scene cuts to a night Kole’s mother is sick. He gets a call from Bode calling him to his office. Reaching the office, Kole is greeted by Happiness and taken to Bode’s room. Kole claims he doesn’t have too much as his mother is unwell and offers some cash.

Bode pretends to be the bigger person and claims he won’t ask for the money before due time. He tells Kole that he has a job for him and asks him to bring Tola to him. In return, he promises to pay for his mother’s treatment. Kole tries to find his way around it but is left with no option.

On the next day, Tola tells Kole and Uncle G that her father has allowed them to go to the mainland. He then drives the kids there and lets them explore. Otin follows them in the distance. Kole takes her through the market and shows her the real Lagos. He shows her how to bargain and gives her the street food to try. They finally end up in a restaurant where she gives Kole her lenses as his phone is broken.

She also claims that he can now call Happiness with it. This rings a bell in his mind and he remembers the kidnapping plan. He intends to save her and take her back home instead. As they navigate through the market, Sunday spots them and begins to follow.

He catches up with them at a bridge and Kole engages in a brawl with him to let Tola escape. Otin spots them and rushes to rescue them. Unfortunately, his battery runs out, rendering him unconscious. Kole manages to break free, grabs her glasses and runs to find her. Tola runs into a corner and with nowhere to go asks Happiness for help at the end of Iwájú Episode 3.

The Episode Review

Iwájú Episode 3 brings Kole’s story to light and gives us more knowledge about his predicament. It reveals the harsh conditions he has been living in, his dream to become a doctor, and his mother’s illness. Bode takes advantage of his situation to get him to help him kidnap Tola.

Kole does change his mind, but unfortunately, it is too late. However, this hasn’t been efficiently depicted in the episode. The episode makes it seem like none of this was set up by Kole. Visiting the mainland was Tola’s fault, and visiting the specific marketplace was also Tola’s decision.

He even tries to get her to go to the other side where the restaurants are, but she insists on the marketplace. He could be blamed for not standing his ground, but that hasn’t happened in the past episodes as Tola is quite stubborn. Regardless, things appear to start spiralling out of control from here, and it’ll be interesting to watch how the entire thing unfolds.
