It Ends With Us Plot Summary
Lily Bloom, a florist meets a young neurosurgeon – Ryle Kincaid on the night of her father’s death on a rooftop. Lily had a strained relationship with her father because of how he physically abused her mother.
Ryle and Lily meet yet again at her flower shop where Ryle’s sister – Allysa works. Soon, Ryle and Lily fall in love and despite his commitment issues, Ryle asks to date Lily.
Ryle joins Lily and her mother for dinner one night where she runs into her first love – Atlas Corrigan. Lily is reminded of the time when she helped Atlas after he had run away from home.
What did Lily’s father do to Atlas?
Back when Lily and Atlas were younger, Atlas was homeless after running away from his abusive mother’s house. Lily helps feed Atlas and allows him to shower at her house when her parents are away.
The two fall in love and eventually have sex in Lily’s room. Lily’s father finds the two together and beats up Atlas to the point that he has to be taken to the hospital. Now, years later, Atlas, has a popular restaurant in Boston just like Lily.
What happens when Atlas sees the bruise on Lily’s eye?
One day, when Lily and Ryle are in the kitchen, Ryle ends up burning his hands. Worried about an important surgery the following day, Ryle gets angry and punches Lily, leaving a bruise on her eye. Ryle apologises to Lily and gaslights her, stating that the punch was an accident. Lily does not make much of the incident.
A few days later Ryle, Lily, Allysa and her husband Marshall are at Atlas’ restaurant for dinner. Atlas notices the bruise under Lily’s eye and grows concerned. Lily tries to explain to Ryle how the bruise was an accident. However, Ryle overhears the conversation and gets furious. After he finds out Atlas is the homeless guy Lily once dated, he mocks him.
A fight breaks out at the restaurant between the two men. Atlas kicks Ryle out but Lily forgives him for his reaction. She apologises for keeping the truth about Atlas a secret from him.
Do Lily and Ryle get married? What happens after that?
Weeks later, Atlas visits Lily at her flower shop and talks to her about the incident. He gives Lily his phone number and asks her to reach out if she needs him. A few months pass and Ryle and Lily visit Allysa and Marshall after she has just given birth. Ryle proposes to Lily and the two get married in a quick ceremony.
Ryle finds Atlas’ number in Lily’s phone case and gets furious. He is about to leave the house and uses the stairs to get away from Lily. Lily tries to explain herself and tries to stop Ryle. He pushes her off the stairs and Lily wakes up in bed. Ryle gaslights Lily yet again and tells her that she slipped off the stairs. Lily believes Ryle and the two go about their lives as usual.
What happens after Ryle finds Atlas’ interview?
Lily’s Flower Shop ends up on the list of the Top 10 Businesses’ in Boston. Unsurprisingly, Atlas’ restaurant is also on the list at the #1 position. That night, Ryle comes home from work, furious about Atlas’ interview. He asks Lily to read the interview and asks about her heart-shaped tattoo. Ryle gets upset when he learns that Lily had a tattoo in memory of her romance with Atlas.
Ryle tries to forcefully have sex with Lily despite her refusal. When Ryle bites the tattoo on Lily’s collarbone, she pushes him away and leaves the house. Lily goes to Atlas’ restaurant, finally realising that she was a victim of domestic violence at the hands of Ryle. Lily is shocked when she learns she is pregnant.
Does Lily take Ryle back?
Lily tells Allysa what Ryle did to her and tells her that she is pregnant. Allysa tells Lily how Ryle accidentally shot and killed their brother – Emerson when he was six years old. She states that Ryle has never been the same after the incident. Allysa tells Lily that she should not forgive Ryle as what he did to her is unforgivable.
Lily gives birth to her daughter – Emerson, named after Ryle and Allysa’s brother who died. She tells Ryle that she wants to divorce him. Lily explains that Ryle would not want his daughter to stay with a man who abuses her which Ryle understands. Lily talks to her newborn in private and promises to put her safety first.
Do Lily and Atlas end up together?
A few months pass as Lily raises her daughter with her mother’s help. One day, Lily meets Atlas and the two bond again. Lily tells Atlas that she is single and raising her daughter alone. Atlas tells Lily that he too is single as the film comes to an end.
