I Cannot Reach You – Episode 6 Recap & Review

Episode 6

Episode 6 of I Cannot Reach You begins with a restless Ashiya thinking about Ohara’s confession at the bridge. After their trip, Ohara spent his time sleeping and giving cold replies to Ashiya’s texts. When Fujino offered a marshmallow to Ashiya, he was flustered when it touched his lips. His mind went back to his and Ohara’s confession and the kiss. He hurriedly washes his mouth and frets over his first kiss being taken away by Ohara.

Just then their teacher gives Ashiya a handout to give to Ohara. Hosaka interrupts and he will give it instead. Later that day, Hosaka and Ashiya visit the ailing Ohara. After he collapsed on Ashiya after the confession, Ohara had been resting at home owing to fever and weakness. Mikoto heads out for shopping and Hosaka also leaves, leaving Ashiya and Ohara alone. Ohara apologises to Ashiya for passing out. Ashiya is surprised that Ohara does not remember the confession and he leaves after saying that he is cutting ties with Ohara.

Hosaka asks Mikoto how well she knows her brother and why she always speaks politely to him. Mikoto answers that she was teased for having a brother complex so she keeps her distance and talks politely. Mikoto and Hosaka wonder the same thing – will there be a good end to Ohara and Ashiya’s story?

The following day Ashiya actively avoids Ohara. Hosaka reminds Ohara about the kiss and Ohara realizes his mistakes. Ashiya is standing on a bridge in rain when Mikoto crosses his path. She asks him about Ohara’s confession and what Ashiya would answer. Ashiya says he is not sure if the confession was even genuine. Mikoto assures him that Ohara is serious but she interjects that leaving things as they are might seem easy but that is not true.

She expresses her relief over Ohara finally confessing to Ashiya. She encourages Ashiya to be honest about his feelings to. The rain has soon stopped by then and the sun is shining bright.

Shortly after, at the school, Ohara asks Ashiya to talk about the school trip. He apologises for startling Ashiya. He says he did it because he wanted to, which surprises Ashiya even more. Ohara comes clean about his feelings and thought process leading to the confession. He confesses his love to Ashiya again but as the school bell rings, he apologises and leaves. Ashiya lashes out at Ohara for not listening to him.

He says that he is not sure about dating but he does want to consider it. Ohara asks if he can keep liking Ashiya, and Ashiya confirms. Ashiya tells Fujino that he received a confession but keeps the person’s identity a secret. When going back home, Ashiya panics at how calm Ohara is. Ohara asks Ashiya out on a date for the next day.

On their date, Ashiya feels a complex from Ohara when Ohara receives attention from others for his height and his looks. Still in his thoughts, he trips over the pavement. Ohara suggests going back to Ashiya’s home and watching a move. Ashiya promptly falls asleep on Ohara’s shoulder while watching the movie. Ohara stays put until Ashiya wakes up. Ashiya apologises for not staying up and spoiling their date. He also says that someone like him does not deserve to be loved by Ohara.

Ohara fights back on Ashiya’s claims. He says Ashiya has no idea how difficult it is for Ohara to control himself. He leans in for a kiss but Ashiya turns his head and then pushes Ohara away. However, Ohara does not stop and starts to feel up Ashiya. When Ashiya protests loudly to stop, Ohara apologises and leaves. On his way home, Ohara thinks to himself that he just wants to be closer to Ashiya. The episode concludes with a crying Ohara standing at the small bridge.

The Episode Review

Well, Ohara certainly needs to control his urges  a little more while until Ashiya agrees to date him and be kissed at every waking moment. I am glad that Ashiya asked for some time to think about Ohara’s proposal and did not ruin his friendship over the sudden kiss.

All in all, this episode picked up pace in terms of Ashiya and Ohara’s friendship which is now bordering onto a romantic one.
