Hotel Cocaine – Episode 6 “ Homeland or Death ” Recap & Review

Homeland or Death 

In this recap for Hotel Cocaine episode 6, we start with Valeria struggling to come to terms with what she saw. Although it is a school day, she stays home and hides the truth from Marisol. She is however lashing out at her dad while seeking comfort from her boyfriend. She doesn’t tell him much other than she is sick. Nestor is worried about her and tries to assure Roman that she will be fine.

Meanwhile, Congressman Landon is set to announce his gubernatorial run for the governor’s seat at the Mutiny. He is hoping to connect with the Cuban community and launch his campaign to make Miami safe. Of course, we all know he is lying like any politician, but someone has to be elected governor and for Nestor, it will be better if it is Landon.

At the same time, Zulio and his team find three bodies hanging on the roadside and he is sure that Nestor is sending a message to his enemies. Speaking of enemies, Don Henao finally lands in Miami and is warmly embraced by Yolanda. However, their bliss is shortened after they learn that Nestor killed three of his men and reclaimed his territories.

At the Mutiny, Landon arrives to check that everything is all set for his big day. Roman gives him a message from Nestor. Nestr wants Landon to set up a meeting with Yolanda and the man behind her. Nestor is not happy that Landon has been meeting with Ray but that is something he can overlook if Landon can bring Yolanda to the meeting. 

Landon sends Ray to meet with Yolanda and Don Henao. Yolanda decides to sit this one out and let Don Henao decide what to do. Don Henoa worries that Ray is playing them and Landon is taking too long to secure them a safe route for their products. The meeting leaves Ray shaken, but Don Henao agrees to meet Nestor at the Mutiny that night. 

Still at the Mutiny, Burton meets with Zulio and asks him to investigate Connie’s death. He reveals that he rehired Connie’s investigators and gives Zulio all the related documents the investigators found. Zulio promises to look into the documents and get back to Burton. Zulio later discovers that Ray has been siphoning little untraceable amounts of money for someone through the bank.

Later that night, Nestor, Roman, Yolanda and Don Henao meet at the Mutiny. Don Henao makes an offer to work with Nestor and give him 15%. However, Nestor is not thrilled to be working for Don Henao and refuses the offer. 

The next day at the mansion, Marisol grows more concerned with Roman’s recent activities. To cheer her up, Alejandra suggests they go shopping for new dresses to wear at Landon’s fundraiser. Marisol is adamant she won’t attend the party, but agrees to go shopping. Sadly, Yolanda has her men shoot up the store to send a message to Nestor and Roman. Roman tries to comfort Marisol, and she slaps him.

After that, Roman talks to Nestor and asks him to consider continuing the negotiation. He asks Janice to give Ray a message that there is hope for the deal. Janice finds Ray shaken and ready to run away. She delivers Roman’s message and Yolanda drops by the Mutiny. Roman clarifies that as much as he wants her dead, peace is important too. He convinces her to get Don Henao to the table again. Roman also calls Nestor and threatens to leave if his brother doesn’t meet with Don Henao.

On the other hand, Nestor finds Valeria trying to steal his cocaine again and talks to her. He explains his past and how he came to Miami. He tells Yolanda about his and Roman’s humble beginnings as dishwashers when they first came to Miami. For Nestor, the drugs are not something he wants to do. It was a way for him to quickly earn more and get the American dream. More importantly, it gave him power and money to help the people in Cuba to take back their country from Fidel Castro. After listening to Nestor, Valeria understands more and refuses to get her boyfriend more cocaine when he asks again. 

With the meeting set, Don Henao and Nestor meet at Landon’s house. Landon helps the two men agree. Nestor agrees to help Don Henao if he gets to keep his territories and buy the product at a cheaper price from Don Henao. Landon threatens Don Henao to agree, and just like that, the deal is sealed. 

Back at the Mutiny, Zulio asks for Roman’s help to talk to Ray. Zulio waterboards Ray and twists his arm until he confesses who he is working for. Roman is gutted after learning that Don Henao and Ray secretly work for Castro. Part of the money from the drugs goes to their biggest enemy. To make matters worse, Landon knew, but hid the truth from Nestor. Unfortunately, by the time Roman gets to Nestor, the deal is made. 

Later that night, Nestor and Roman confront Landon ahead of his fundraising party at the Mutiny. Landon finally comes clean but threatens Nestor. He lies to the two men that he is planning on taking Castro down once he becomes president. Of course, Roman and Nestor don’t buy it. Roman asks Zulio to find a reason to arrest Landon, Don Henao and Yolanda, but Zulio doesn’t have enough evidence to take down a powerful politician. On the other hand, Nestor asks his men to prepare a ‘gift’ for Landon.

The fundraising party goes well without a hitch. A mysterious man, presumably under Nestor’s orders, places a bomb in Landon’s car. After the party, Zulio waits in his car to confront Landon. However, Landon is blown to pieces as soon as he gets in his car. Guess he got Nestor’s gift!

The Episode Review

With only two episodes left to the finale, Hotel Cocaine is amping up the stakes. Landon messed up when he threatened Nestor after revealing he is helping Castro. Nestor and Roman love Cuba and they hate Castro for destroying their homeland. By killing Landon, Nestor officially started the war between the Cuban and the Colombian cartels in Miami. It goes without saying that the police won’t take such an attack lying down, either. It is about to get bloody and messy. Who will survive this war? 

At the same time, maybe Burton will be able to clear his name and get his sister justice. Hopefully, Ray will have the chance to tell the police what he knows. If Roman plays his cards right, he can get Zulio to go after Don Henao and Yolanda and watch from the distance. Nestor is a wild card, though. What will he do next?

Out of curiosity, how will Valeria feel after learning that her uncle killed her ex-boyfriend’s father? It seems like the two young lovers were never meant to be!
