Disney+ continues to tease us with two new trailers and no formal confirmation on a worldwide release date. But the videos are fun and give us a little indication of how it all came about. Read on for more details on what we do know.
Meanwhile, who isn’t ready for a little get-away right about now? If travel chaos combined with the heat has got you discouraged, at least we can channel a relaxing escape via our mates in the soop…
What is In the Soop: Friendcation?
If you’re just joining us, In the Soop: Friendcation is a celebrity reality show filmed in South Korea starring 5 recognisable Korean actors/performers. The self-named group, known as Wooga Squad, includes Kim Taehyung (V of BTS), Choi Woo-shik (Parasite, Our Beloved Summer, Time to Hunt), Park Seo-joon (Captain Marvel 2: The Marvels, Itaewon Class) actor/singer Park Hyung-sik (Strong Woman Do Bong Soon, Suits, Juror 8) and rapper/singer/producer Peakboy (known for breakthrough hit Gin&Tonic, and body positivity tune, Diet). According to Kim Taehyung, ‘Wooga’ is an abbreviation for the phrase, ‘we are family.’
The reality show will cover a 4 day/3 night trip for the mates with them chatting, hanging out and experiencing all sorts of fun together.
How did they get 5 celebs to vacation together?
Now there’s a question. How did that come together?
Based on trailer 2 (above), it looks like Kim Taehyung had a hand in the planning. Which makes sense as BTS did two televised trips into the soop (forest) together, in 2020 and 2021 with cameras on all day, every day.
What’s even more fascinating is in the 3rd video, where we get a tantalising glimpse that they may in fact reveal how their friendship really started. Something about a game…? Intriguing.
And even more ear-catching, after revealing earlier in the clip how close he feels to the group, it looks like Kim Taehyung gets upset about something… what could he possibly reveal? All the guys are keen to know too. See trailer 3 here:

What’s on the agenda?
I’m sure we’re all super curious to see where they are and what kind of facility the guys will have in the woods. The location is Goseong in Gandwon-do, along the East Sea, about a 2.5 hour drive from Seoul. From the clips, we can see campfires, a huge boat, an ice-skating rink, a very dark pool of water and everyone sleeping in the same room? It seems like it. How sweet.
Where can I watch In the Soop: Friendcation?
We know that JTBC and Disney+ Korea will air the programme from July 22 for 4 episodes (details here). And, according to our story last week, we revealed that Disney+ and HYBE Entertainment have entered an agreement to share music related content over the channel, including 2 BTS-focused programmes plus In the Soop: Friendcation. Disney+ has the worldwide rights to the content, so they’ll surely share it with us. But how soon? Disney+ is keeping tight-lipped but we’ll keep an eye out for you.
Watch Tips
Will In the Soop: Friendcation appear anywhere else? Most of the BTS In the Soop episodes have shown up with subtitles on YouTube, so we can imagine that some enterprising organisation will post them at some point. But I’m hoping we’ll get an official glimpse from Disney+ sooner, including subtitles. Watch this space!
Shout out to #ZapZee for the English subtitled trailers!
