HIGH CARD – Season 2 Episode 8 Recap & Review

Lala Valdenklein

HIGH CARD Season 2 Episode 8 begins with Lala appearing in front of Finn. He takes Finn to a memory of a battle being fought. It reveals Trapla being invaded. It reveals a boy praying to a Magic Rose after which Lala appears and takes him to the battlefield. The two then create 52 cards before the Knights, calling for peace.

One of the knights opposes it and attacks the boy, but he is guarded by the cards. Finn recognizes him to be the Black Knight. The Black Knight spills his blood on a card, giving him powers and turning it into a King of Spades.

Lala reveals that the history known to Finn was incorrect and rewritten. He takes Finn back to the time Fourland was born and the first king took his throne. The Black Knight, along with some other Knights, revolted against the Royal Family.

The Black Knight is about to kill the king, but a brave knight steps in to fight back. He was the weakest of them all, yet the bravest. It was the 2 of spades, and he inspired the other knights to fight back. They successfully subdued the Black Knight, and he was executed while the others were spared. Over time, the Knights reached the ends, and the cards imbued with their souls were passed down to the next generation.

Lala then takes him to a memory where he interacts with the king and asks him to kill him. The king refuses and asks him to create a 53rd card instead, and thus the Joker card is created. The royal family was afraid of the players turning on the Royal family and hence assigned the head of the house of Pinochle to secretly collect the cards from those who inherited it.

The cards were collected and hidden but didn’t stay that way for long. However, San Galano possessed a chancellor and was revived. San Galano took the cards into his body and gained their powers. He also attempted to kill the Joker, and the two clashed. San Galano was unable to kill the Joker.

Lala produces Finn’s gun, telling him it’s his responsibility to commence the fight against San Galano. He also requests Finn to kill him, but Finn refuses. Lala reveals that the brave knight who stood against the Black Knight was wielding the 2 of spades.

Returning to the scene, Finn shoots the Black Knight, saving Chris from him. He picks Chris up and makes a run for it. The Black Knight unleashes a destructive wave. They eventually run into Zenon.

Zenon holds them at gunpoint, and the Black Knight arrives and slices off Zenon’s hand before transforming back into TILT. Sugar collects the cards and runs at the end of HIGH CARD Season 2 Episode 8.

The Episode Review

HIGH CARD Season 2 Episode 8 reveals the interesting history behind the cards and takes us back to the time the first king created them and also shows the origin of the Black Knight. The history turns out to be great as the king starts off as an ordinary person who then ends up uniting the four lands against the invaders.

However, it falls short of giving some more information about the Black Knight, which seems to be important given he plays such a big role as the antagonist. Apart from that, the parallel drawn in history is amazing, and it’ll be interesting to see how Finn fights his way through this one. Another question that arises is if Finn survives this because the 2 of Spades had fallen fighting the Black Knight in the past.
